Other 6

"Some of us find God at church on Sunday, but finding God the other six days of the week can be a puzzle." So says the website Other 6.com on its home page.  Sponsored by Loyola Press, the web site invites people to an online community where they can share their thoughts on two questions, "Where have you found God today?" and "Where do you need to find God today?"  A link is provided to obtain more information on "examination of consciousness", the prayerful review of the day upon which the questions are based.  Click on the icons above or below to access the site.

"RETREAT WITHIN A RETREAT" "RETREAT OUTSIDE OF THE RETREAT"
                                                                     Re-Re
Young Adult staff members at the March "Marist Youth Encounter Christ" program participated in a "Retreat within a Retreat".  Through traditional Lenten scriptures, the young adults were invited to reflect upon their experiences and to explore ways of being Christ for one another and for those making the Encounter.   The participants were offered input and reflection questions each morning and gathered for shared prayer each evening.

At the same time seventeen young adults gathered at the Marist Young Adult Evangelization Community for their own retreat.  Officialy titled, "Continuing to Encounter Christ", the program quickly came to be called "The Retreat outside of the Retreat".  Through the use of topics similar to the Castrelosthemes on the Encounter, the participants were challenged to look at how their relationship with God has matured over the years.  The young adults joined those at the Encounter for dinner, mass, shared prayer and the fourth day talk.

Why did you decide to do the year of service in Esopus?
I've worked a lot of jobs since I graduated from high school but none of them was right for me. I'm taking this year to find myself and to find what it is that I am meant to do.

How have you been able to use your gifts this year?

Being in Esopus is giving me an opportunity to do the things I enjoy and to use my talents. I like climbing, hiking and camping and am involved in the outdoor adventure retreats. I enjoy writing and use my skills to prepare retreat talks. I am good at working with my hands and use those talents around the property. I am also a good cook and I contribute some fine cuisine to our community dinners.!

How has the year been for you?

I am glad to be part of the Marist Young Adult Evangelization Community. Esopus is my home away from home and the Marist Community is my second family.
