Subtitled "spiritual practices for the human being," the Spirituality and Health web site offers a variety of resources including "e-courses" where subscribers can receive input from a variety of religious traditions. Resources are also provided for the different liturgical seasons and there are suggested spiritual poems, readings and actions for each day.

Many resources are available for Earth Day (April 22nd) including "Twelve Spiritual Practices to Honor the Earth" and a review of the new DisneyNature movie, Earth.

"Spirituality & Practice" is one of the many spirituality web sites listed as  a prayer resource at www.MaristYoungAdult.com.

This Earth Day, visit the web site for Catholic Climate Covenant and take the St. Francis Pledge.  The St. Francis Pledge to Care for Creation and the Poor is a promise and a commitment to live the faith by protecting God's creation and advocating on behalf of people in poverty who face the harshest impacts of global climate change. By joining the Covenant, you commit to act on each of the five elements of the St. Francis Pledge:
to PRAY and reflect on the duty to care for God's Creation and protect the poor and vulnerable.
to LEARN about and educate others on the causes and moral dimensions of climate change.
to ASSESS how individuals and groups contribute to climate change through energy use, consumption,  and waste.
to ACT to change one's choices and behaviors to reduce how one contributes to climate change.
to ADVOCATE for Catholic principles and priorities in climate change discussions and decisions, especially as they impact those who are poor and vulnerable.

NUTRITION

Nutrition MonthFifty-seven young adults participated in the MYA's celebration of National Nutrition Month during March.  Each day of the month participants received a daily nutrition tip to help them to respect their bodies as "temples."   Tips included strategies for healthy eating, stress reduction and proactive health.  Young adult community member John Mc Entee helped to prepare the nutrition facts.  As a follow-up to the program, the Marist Young Adult Advisory Committee is selling a cookbook of simple, healthy recipes called Beyond Macaroni and Cheese.  Proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will benefit the Marist Brothers Mission Ad Gentes project.

"RETREAT ON THE RUN"

RunningTwenty-six young adults participated in the Marist Young Adult Program's Lenten "Retreat on the Run,"  a four day online retreat for busy people.  Each day of the retreat, participants were invited to view a five to ten minute scripture-based video with suggested questions and practices for reflection.  Retreatants could choose  to share their reflections by posting on the facebook event wall or by participating in an evening chat.

"RETREAT WITHIN A RETREAT"

danny carFourteen young adults  participated in a "Retreat within a  Retreat" during the April Encounter. Through music videos and scripture passages, participants reflected on their "encounters" with Jesus and processed their experience as small group leaders and staff.

GOOD FRIDAY/HOLY SATURDAY RETREAT

danny carMarist Young Adults were invited to experience the practices of Good Friday and Holy Saturday through traditional and modern forms including a Good Friday servicemike-gfhs at the Redemptoristine Sisters' Convent and music videos.  The young adults ate simply in solidarity with the poor and prayed for all those who are marginalized.

How did you get involved with Marist?
I attended Roselle Catholic High School and had the opportunity to discover what it means to be Marist through their excellent Campus Ministry program.  I grew in the Marist spirituality through the Marist Encounter Christ Retreat.  That weekend in Esopus opened my eyes to see God in my life and enabled me to grow closer in God.  After my Encounter  I wanted to turn my experience into action and be part of helping others to encounter God in the same way.  I took every chance I had to be on an Encounter team .

Why are you still involved with Marist?

After my first experience of being a team member for an Encounter, I found out that not only was being on the team an opportunity for me to help others to Encounter God, but also for me to continue to develop my own relationship with God.  In fact, the overall reason I am still involved is because at every "encounter" with Marist Brothers, Marist youth, Marist young adults and Marist lay people (faculty members of Marist schools and other adults), I grow both in my faith and as a young person.   There is something about being Marist that constantly challenges me to learn and to grow into a better young adult.

How do you live out your Marist identity now?
I try to follow the example of quietly serving others with an extraordinary amount of love.  I have been lucky to have many role models who have set that example.
