New Performing Arts degree  Capilano University, Douglas College, Langara and Vancouver Community College are partnering to offer a unique Bachelor of Performing Arts degree. The nine-month program offers a degree completion pathway for students who have already earned credit from a public or recognized and accredited private post-secondary institution in the disciplines of music, dance, theatre, stagecraft, film arts, arts and entertainment management, musical theatre or digital media. The program is ideal for those who want to practice as a professional performing artist, arts manager, administrator or cultural entrepreneur, or those who wish to continue on to graduate studies in the performing arts. New Digital Visual Effects program Capilano's School of Motion Picture Arts launched a new Digital Visual Effects program in September. The two-year diploma program covers everything from 3D modeling, texturing and compositing to matchmoving and green-screen removal -essentially everything necessary to create amazing computer-generated effects merged with live action footage. LSBA and ECCE receive approved degree path for elementary education Capilano's Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies (LSBA) and the Bachelor of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) degree programs have both been confirmed as acceptable degree paths into the Elementary Education stream in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University. Both Capilano degree programs include students who plan to pursue careers as elementary school teachers. Geneskool returns to Cap this December for Grades 9-12
 Genome BC and Capilano University are once again teaming up to deliver a unique workshop series in December 2011 and April 2012. Genome BC Geneskool is travelling outreach program that introduces high school students to the fascinating world of molecular biology and genomics. Like an episode of the popular CSI television series, these full-day workshops allow students to become crime scene technicians. Designed to complement the high school biology curriculum, Geneskool labs deliver a hands-on experience based on a murder mystery. One-day workshops will be offered December 12-16, 2011 and April 16-19 & April 23-26, 2012 at the North Vancouver campus of Capilano University. Summer philosophy course for Grade 11s
Students in Grade 11 will have the unique opportunity to take a three-credit university level philosophy course in August 2012. PHIL 110: Critical Thinking is a condensed course offered from August 13 to 24 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at our North Vancouver campus. Through a clear step-by-step method of practical reasoning, students are taught how to think impartially and neutralize invisible biases that limit freedom of thought and action. Gift to Capilano University enhances the international experience
Students wishing to study abroad and international students attending the university will benefit greatly from a $500,000 gift from international businessman Sheldon Trainor and his wife Emelda Wong. The funds will be used to create the Sheldon Trainor and Emelda Wong Centre for International Experience in the heart of the university's North Vancouver campus. Activities and services will be offered that encourage Canadian students to consider an overseas experience as part of their studies and that give support to international students who choose to attend Capilano University. Capilano Blues Athletics
Capilano University is proud of the athletes who hone their time management skills playing sports while attending Cap as regular full-time students. Capilano athletes compete in men's and women's basketball, volleyball, soccer and badminton, and men's golf. To try out for a team, contact our Athletics office at 604.984.4977. Soccer, badminton and golf schedules are finished for the year, but basketball and volleyball games continue into 2011. Take in a game and cheer on the Blues! Athletics & Recreation
