While I am not a fan of cold weather, I do love a good snowstorm. This last weekend's storm was about as perfect as they come: big, fluffy flakes falling at a furious rate! I couldn't wait to go out for a run and listen to that peaceful, silent sound that snow makes when it falls. A sound interrupted only by the rhythmic crunch of my footsteps and the laughter of kids (of all ages) playing.
Snow is a feast for the senses - sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. By taste, I don't just mean snowflakes melting on your tongue. No, I'm talking something better. I'm talking Snow Ice Cream! With all due respect, Ben & Jerry have nothing on my grandma's recipe for this tasty treat. It's the perfect ending to a snowday (especially when topped with chocolate sauce). You can't help but smile when you eat it!
My gift to you this holiday season, in addition to warm wishes for a wonderful holiday, is my grandma's recipe. I hope it becomes a fun snowday tradition for your family too.
Snow Ice Cream:1 cup heavy cream
1-2 teaspoons vanilla (I like lots of vanilla)
1/3 cup sugar
6-7 cups fresh, clean snow
Whip the cream with a mixer until soft peaks form. Fold in the vanilla, sugar and snow until blended. Freeze until firm and enjoy. Tastes best when eaten on the same day it is made.
