S-A-L-E !!!

Hello!

One of my favorite things is watching a thunderstorm roll in, and boy have we had some doozies lately!  The other day, the wind was so strong that it blew open our store's heavy glass door and made the rain go completely horizontal.  A local weather station clocked the wind at 88 mph - that's a Category 1 hurricane!  I felt like I was back in Florida covering Hurricane Frances, except back then I was hunkered down behind 5 ft thick concrete walls.

Hot, humid air are the two main ingredients that fuel these powerful storms, and we've definitely had a summer's worth of heat and humidity already.  One of the best things to do when it's this stifling outside is to shop!  Fortunately, the West Hartford Center Sales Festival happens this weekend so you can enjoy air-conditioned stores and great deals!  We'll have our sno-cone machine out again so stop on by for a frosty treat.

Also, we have free cold water in the store for humans and (thanks to my mom) a Hydration Station for Thirsty Dogs outside the store for our furry friends so plan your walking/running route to pass by the store and drink up!

Live Fit!

Stephanie

PS:  Thanks to Team MAD and the Stonington YMCA Women's Tri Club for allowing us to host a Shoe Clinic for their team members.  We had a great time helping to find the right shoe and sports bra for you.  Your excitement is contagious and re-energizes us.  You all are going to ROCK YOUR RACE this year!
Schuyler's Shoe Review

Schuyler, Shoe GuruA new section from our resident footwear guru!  Asics DS Trainer

Another new arrival to the store is the Asics DS Trainer - a fantastic lightweight trainer.  This shoe is geared towards runners looking for a trainer they can run mileage and workouts in.  It's great for high school runners needing moderate stability and is a perfect racing shoe for longer races (marathon/half-marathon) or for those who can't wear a flat because it doesn't provide enough support.

The upper features a biomorphic fit with asymmetrical lacing which relieves pressure on the toes and has stretch pads that expand as your foot expands.  The midsole is made of Solyte and gel which gives it that firm, but responsive feel that Asics is famous for.  The stability of the shoe is nearly equivalent to the Asics 2130, but the shoe itself is so much lighter.  Both Steph and Kurt wear this shoe and are convinced it makes them (look) faster.
Half Marathon Training Program

ONLY 7 SPOTS LEFT!!

It's not too late to sign-up for our Hartford Half Marathon training program!  Come to our kick-off meeting next Thursday (July 17) at 7:00pm to learn more and meet your coaches: Ingrid, Renee and Shannon.

Your adventure begins on Sunday, July 20 at 7:00am with a 3 mile run that will help establish your training pace and allow you to meet your teammates.  For the next 12 weeks, you will slowly increase the distance of your Sunday long run and participate in a fun weekly speed/hill workout on Thursdays (6:30pm).  We'll also have experts give short seminars on stretching, injury prevention, nutrition, and race day strategies, and you'll get a great moisture-wicking t-shirt!

The program costs $100 (does not include the race entry fee).  If you can't make it to the kick-off meeting, stop-by the store or call or email us with your name and email so we can reserve your spot!

You can do it!
No Boundaries is Returning!

No Boundaries Logo

My favorite part of owning a Fleet Feet Sports store is helping people get active and accomplish things they never thought possible.  For people like my grandma, it's being able to walk around her apartment complex, for others it's doing their first triathlon or marathon and for others it's taking that big leap from walking to running.  That's what No Boundaries is all about!  This program is designed for the true beginner.  We will teach and train you to go from the couch to a 5k, and have fun doing it.  There is a runner in all of us and we'll help you find it!

We are still working on the final program details, but stay tuned to this newsletter for more information.  It's your turn!
In Store Now...

Wow, where do I begin?  We've been keeping UPS, Fed-Ex and DHL busy with new products coming in almost daily.

Girl's Asics 2130KIDS SHOES (and Socks)!  Kids are always in perpetual motion so why not get them fit for the right pair of shoes to support their feet and encourage good biomechanics?  We now carry the New Balance 768 and the Asics 2130 that are made with the same great materials and designs as their adult counterparts.  Shoes come in normal and wide widths for both preschoolers and youth (size 10 to 7).  The prices are $55-60 - comparable to other well-made kid's shoes.  Don't forget a pair of Balega socks and the "Squeeze-um" lace locks to make tying their shoes a breeze!

Nike+ SportBand:  If you don't have an iPod Nano or don't like to runNike+ SportBand with music, but have wanted to use the Nike shoe sensor which tracks your distance, pace and calories, your time has come!  The Nike+ SportBand is now available.  The stylish band wirelessly connects to a special shoe sensor (included with the SportBand) that sends out a signal with every step.  After your run or walk, the SportBand display detaches and connects to your computer via a USB port so you can upload the information to the Nike+ web site.  The web site will then store all of your runs, allow you to challenge friends and strangers around the world and participate in the "Nike+ Human Race 10k" on 08-31-08 (http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/humanrace/registration/joinRace.jsp) .

Nutrition Products: Did you know that you could easily lose 2 to 3 pounds of water during a 5 mile run?  Coach Ingrid has a great rule of thumb to help you remember how much you should drink to stay hydrated: take your weight, divide it by 2 - that's how many ounces you should be drinking everyday that you exercise.  If possible, weigh yourself before and after your summer run and drink 20-24 ounces of water or replacement fluid for every pound lost.

Have a favorite nutrition product that you want us to carry?  Email your request to me at steph@fleetfeethartford.com.

THE Enell Sports Bra:  This is the sports bra Oprah and Drew Enell BraBarrymore rave about.  It's the ultimate sports bra for larger breasted women.  I'll write more about this bra in the next newsletter so stay tuned!
