February 2010

Good afternoon and Happy Valentines Day!

This edition of ClientCall is all about your heart and what it means to us.

While we are not going to send you chocolates and flowers, we are going to give you information that will show you how much we really care about you and your staff.

This month, our focus is on keeping your heart healthy and beating. As you know, we are never too young or too old to think about our heart health. Even if we are in seemingly good physical condition, slender, svelte, a gym rat, vegetarian, etc., we need to think about our hearts.

They say that heart disease is the silent killer; it can strike anyone at any time without warning. Although it's important to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regime, it is still vitally important to know the warning signs of heart disease, including strokes and heart attacks, as well as prevention and emergency treatment.

We gleaned a lot of wonderful material from the American Heart Association's website because, well, they're the experts. The AHA offers some great tools, advice, materials and opportunities to participate by donating to their "Go Red and Give" program.

You'll find AHA links in our InternetIntel section that will help you keep your heart happy and healthy.

From all of us at the ClientCall, Ken Robbins and the agency staff: Have a heart healthy and Happy Valentine's Day!

- Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.

We strongly urge you visit this link, read the information (it's concise) and follow the advice given by the AHA. As in the case of all of the above, when in doubt, call 911 and seek medical attention without delay.

Eat a Heart-Healthy Diet: Do we really have to elaborate on this subject?

The 7 Simple Steps:  Learn the state of your heart and what you can do to live a better life.

The AHA offers this check list and information as a resource; it isn't intended to be a diagnostic tool. There is a simple registration form to fill out, but you might find it a very worthwhile use of time.
"Go Red and Give" Do you have or know someone with heart disease? Consider donating to the AHA's "Go Red and Give" program. From the website: "You can save women's lives. Help us raise $100,000 by Feb.12 for critical research and outreach programs. Every time we can reach another woman we can put the power to beat heart disease into her hands"

If you really want to show how much you care, consider making a donation in your beloved's name. She will appreciate that more than the Godiva goodies... but don't quote us on that.

Need some heart-healthy reading material? Consider ordering the American Heart Association Complete Guide to Women's Heart Health for $26 plus shipping.

For Our Anthem Blue Cross Clients:
We're pleased to inform you of an enhancement to the Refill By Mail prescription benefit you currently provide to your employees. Beginning February 1, your employees will be able to continue filling certain maintenance prescription drugs at retail pharmacies under the Refill By Mail benefit.
The maintenance drugs that qualify for this enhancement are defined in the Refill By Mail - Retail Exception Drug List (please contact the agency if you'd like a copy of the full list).

Many drugs on this list are commonly included in retail chain pharmacies' $4 generic and other low-cost generic drug programs. With this enhancement, members can fill these medications at a local retail pharmacy and will not be required to switch to the mail pharmacy - even after they reach the maximum number of fills allowed at retail pharmacies. This allows your employees to take advantage of the retail cost-saving programs under their prescription benefit.

For maintenance prescriptions that are not on the Retail Exception List, members with Refill By Mail benefit should continue using the mail service pharmacy to get the most from their prescription drug benefits.
NOTE: These changes only apply to groups that are actively enrolled in the Refill by Mail product. Refill by Mail is available to ASO groups only.
