Greetings!
Summer in SoCal ... those words evoke special images: sun-drenched drives down PCH in a convertible, Beach Boys blaring (or Beastie Boys, etc. - or whatever the kids listen to these days) on the CD, radio, iPod or beamed via satellite radio, the smell of sunscreen and coconut-scented oil, sunglasses, flip-flops and lazy days on the sand, ice-cold drinks and people watching on Venice Beach. Ah, a sentimental mental postcard of the quintessential Southern California summer. Fifty weeks per year (more or less) you are stuck (or happily ensconced) in your cube or office, just waiting to have a little seasonal fun by yourself or with your family. Perhaps you wanted to plan a vacation in more distant or exotic locales (we envy you, if you did), but if you're feeling the economic crunch, like most of us, you might wonder what to do with your precious vacation time when you can't afford Ibiza or Belize and even tickets to Disneyland ("ew, like, go there like tourists?") seem beyond your budget. We wouldn't want you risk your R&R time just hanging around the house or cleaning out the garage. There are ways to make your dollars stretch and still have a satisfying and relaxing holiday with your friends or family. Just how did we do that? We looked for coupon and recreation discount sites! Yes, we did! We discovered several interesting links for you, including one that that has dozens of fun activities; ranging from local cruises, surfing lessons, tours, jet-skiing and coastline kayak eco-tours! If you can't find any activity or event that piques your interest, call the company - they'll be happy to work with you to plan your ideal vacation. Most of us yearn all year for our vacation days, however, we know it is hard for some employees, staff or small business owners to leave the office behind, in fact, some must find a way to stay connected to our companies because of the level of responsibility we hold. PDAs personal digital assistants) or "smartphones," are a great way to keep tabs on email, voice mail and other tasks so that you can get away from the office, but still stay reachable in case of emergencies or just make sure the staff isn't watching soaps instead of spreadsheets or having a kegger in the breakroom. (Just kidding ... those kinds of things never happen while the boss is away. Honest!). One more selling point: if your smartphone has GPS, it could help you find your way to help or home when you get lost on your coastline kayak eco-tour! As luck would have it, our June edition of ClientCall just happens to feature an article from Entrepreneur.com on finding the perfect PDA or smartphone for your needs. (BTW, we just upgraded our BlackBerry, so let us know if you find another treasure that has a faster browser - thanks!)

| Disneyland: You know you want to go there, but you don't want your friends to find out. It's okay, we know and understand (it's been awhile, but we had fun on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. However, send us through that "small world" brain-scrambler again and ... well, just don't!). Let's be honest: a day at the theme parks can be quite expensive, but there are deals and many are online-exclusives. For example, Disneyland's 6-Day Park HopperŪ Bonus Ticket may offer savings of up to $40 per person when you buy online! So, prepare to click: Disneyland Packages

Finally, while you're enjoying your two or three weeks of time-off, remember to use caution while soaking up the rays. Whether you are on or off the job, it's wise to watch for heat-related illnesses and know how to treat them. Below is information from the California Chamber of Commerce: CalChamber Reminds Employers to Train Employees to Prevent Heat Illness (May 28, 2009) The California Chamber of Commerce is urging businesses around the state to take all available precautions to prevent heat illness among their employees as warmer weather approaches. Heat illness occurs when the body's temperature control system is unable to maintain an acceptable temperature. Under normal circumstances, the body cools itself by sweating. However, when high temperatures and humidity prevent the body from releasing heat efficiently, a person's body temperature can rise quickly causing numerous symptoms. If left untreated, high body temperatures can damage the brain and other vital organs and, ultimately, lead to death. PreventHeatIllness |

This month, we shine the spotlight on one of our associates, Christopher Di Stefano, the Allstate agent for our agency (who also attends to some of Ken's personal insurance needs). Chris and his father, now retired, started their Allstate agency in 1956; Chris has been an agent since 1978. One of the reasons we work with Chris Di Stefano's agency is because of our mutual focus on superior customer service. "Some of my customers are 4th generation with this agency which shows their loyalty and satisfaction. I work directly with my customers and do not funnel them through staff," said Mr. Di Stefano. We're pleased to tell you about our partners and associates, especially those who share our "customer-first" mindset like Chris Di Stefano. | |
