American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics

Dear Colleagues,

In a recent e-blast I told you about the OPTN/UNOS policy proposals out for public comment.  These proposals can be found here. I urged you to pay particular attention to Proposal #2, to establish Kidney Paired Donation (KPD) Policy, from the Kidney Transplantation Committee.

The ASHI National Clinical Affairs Committee and Executive Board have worked together to write and submit an official ASHI response to proposal #2. It can be found here.

In addition to this response, ASHI has also given our support to proposals #1 - Proposal to Clarify Priority Status for Prior Living Organ Donors Who Later Require a Kidney Transplant (Kidney Transplantation Committee) and #3 - Proposal to Include Bridge Donors in the OPTN Kidney Paired Donation (KPD) Program (Kidney Transplantation Committee)  without additional comment.

If you have not yet commented on these proposals, please do so as soon as possible.

It is important for every ASHI member to also comment on these proposals because every comment, whether it comes from an individual or an organization, is counted equally. The deadline for submission of comments is June 15, 2012.

Thank you for your continuing support of ASHI and its mission.

Sincerely,

Amy B. Hahn, PhD, D(ABHI)
President, ASHI
