OPTN/UNOS Proposals for Public Comment |
Dear Colleagues, As you may know, the OPTN/UNOS currently has ten policy proposals out for public comment. These proposals can be found here.
I hope you will carefully read these proposals and write comments on those you feel strongly about. I urge you to pay particular attention to Proposal #2 to establish Kidney Paired Donation (KPD) Policy, from the Kidney Transplantation Committee. Section 13.5 of this proposal covers the Histocompatibility Testing requirements for the KPD program, section 13.6.3.3 discusses Unacceptable Antigens, and 13.7 is the Crossmatching Protocol. There are some problems with this proposal, so please read it very carefully, especially the aforementioned sections, and provide your comments.
This is a prime opportunity for the ASHI community to provide our expertise in the shaping of policies affecting our laboratories and our patients. The ASHI National Clinical Affairs Committee will be drafting an official ASHI response, which we will share with you and with the leaders of other organizations when it is complete. However, it is important for every ASHI member also to comment on these proposals because every comment is counted equally. Please note that the deadline for submission of comments is June 15, 2012. Thank you for your continuing support of ASHI and its mission.
Sincerely,
Amy B. Hahn, PhD, D(ABHI) President, ASHI
