**NEW!**

Every month we are going to feature a different, and hopefully FREE, iPad/iPod/iPhone educational application. Visit our ever-changing app page. (www.internet4classrooms.com/links_grades_kindergarten_12/apps_web2_tools.htm)

Here's a wonderful tool for people who need help communicating. This app can be helpful for people who have speech impairments, cerebral palsy, autism, and other non-talking characteristics. This free app called Tap to Talk allows you to touch the picture of the action, phrase, or question you a! re trying to say and your iPhone, iPad, or iPod will "speak" i! t. Compa tible wtih iPhone, iPod, iTouch and iPad OS 3.0 or later.

Things To Celebrate This Month

It's already September! Everyone should be in the school groove by now. This month brings Labor Day, Fall, National Hispanic Heritage Month, and more. You never know what wonderful resources you can find to enrich your classroom experience. Let's get started!

Library Card Sign-Up Month

We can not encourage reading enough. Even though I4C has a ton of online stories and books, we still want those children in libraries across the world. Remind students to visit their local libraries often!

Labor Day (9-3)

In 1882, roughly 10,000 workers took unpaid time off to march in honor of the working man's rights, and formed the first Labor Day parade. Read about the history of Labor Day and enjoy these Labor Day activities for kids.

Google Was Incorporated (9-4-98)

Did you know that Google actually rents goats! The goats help reduce brush and weeds at Google's Headquarters. Google is the most widely used search engine arguably nationwide. There are a lot of ways to look up information online. Explore different search engine sites here. These are specifically designed as safe web sites for childr! en.

Grandparents Day (9-9)

In 1978, Jimmy Carter signed Proclamation 4580- National Grandparents Day- that declared we should honor the values and traditions set before us by past generations. Grandparents Day gives us a way to recognize the wonderful contributions our elders can add to our lives. Celebrate Grandparents Day with these crafts, homemade cards, and activities.

National Hispanic Heritage Month (9-15 - 10-15)

Did you know that Hispanic Heritage Month begins on the 15th of September because that is the anniversary of independence for a number of Latin countries? Pay tribute to this month by exploring image galleries, history, and more. Visit Teachers Scholastic for an interactive experience while learning more about Hispanic Heritage Month. Here are a few Hispanic Heritage classroom activities too.

First Day of Fall (9-22)

Who doesn't love a good Fall craft idea? Cooler weather and sweaters will be here before we know it.

PLYMOUTH SOUTH'S ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
The Plymouth South High School Athletic Department, in conjunction with G & G Silk Screening of Plymouth, is pleased to announce their "Athletes of the Week."  Students are nominated by their coaches and, along with photos posted in the gym foyer, are awarded T-shirts from G & G.      The female "Athlete of the Week" is currently Girls' Soccer player Jayci Andrews (grade 10).  During Monday's game Jayci scored three goals against Dennis-Yarmouth ending in an 8-0 win.  On Wednesday she scored the game winning goal 3-0.  Jayci completed her week with a total of four goals.  The male "Athlete of the Week" is Jr. Soccer player Tevin Crocker (grade 11).  Crocker is a first year varsity player who has earned a starting position.  Not only does he shut down top defenders from other teams, he is involved in South offense.  Scores for last week included wins over Sacred Heart 2-0 and D-Y 5-2.  Undoubtedly, Crocker will meet the challenge again this week when South takes on Marshfield and Pembroke.
Congratulations to WEEK TWO winners!

Due to the EEE status of our area, all games at Plymouth South High School will be played during the day, not the evening, until the first frost. The only change in the near future is the football game for homecoming weekend. This has been moved to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28th vs. Hingham High School. We will keep you updated on any additional changes. Thank you for your support!

We are working towards setting up an Interview Closet for our students at PSHS who are going on job and college interviews.
If you are cleaning out your closet, we are in need of the following gently worn, clean dress clothes for both male and female students in all sizes:

* Male: Shirts, dress pants, belts, dress shoes, ties, sports jackets

* Female: Dress pants, shirts, blouses, dresses, skirts, jackets, shoes and belts

Unfortunately we have situations where students who have job opportunities do not have suitable attire for an interview, so we would like to have these clothes available for the students to either borrow or take as they need. All students are welcome. The "Interview Closet" is located in the Graphics shop (room 10). Please feel free to drop off any clothes you feel are suitable (hangers also welcome) and/or e-mail/call if you have a student in need. Thanks to Mrs. Kate Colozzi who is organizing the closet!

Congrats to the PSHS Girls Field Hockey team for a tremendous win against Marshfield High School.  Congrats to the girls and their coaches.

The following students are spending the day at Bridgewater State College involved with the MARC anti-bullying program.  They are the leaders of our anti-bullying efforts.  Juniors: Dylan Oxsen, Shaun Duncombe, Brendan Harty, Anthony Schena, Sam Bazarewsky, Emily Belcher, Julia Daly, Tabitha Fantoni, Bri Fragata, Kelsi Gagner, Lexy Halpin and Christina Jaros.  Sophomores: Dylan Finlay, Drew Guadagno and Ryan Harty.

Juniors and Seniors will have the opportunity to attend the Presidential Inauguration.  Students in Mr. Walkers and/or Ms. Shaver's classes have received information.  Please contact the school with any questions!

Plymouth South High School would like to congratulate its students on the impressive scores they received on the spring 2012 MCAS tests. Every student who took the ELA test earned a passing score! Better yet, over 100 students earned scores in the "Advanced" category. Failures in the math and science categories are in the single digits, and the good news is that our students are also gaining more points on each of these tests. For instance, the number of students who fell into the "Needs Improvement" category in math has been declining and, in fact, is nearly half the number of students in this category in 2009. There are also many more "Advanced" scores in the math (over 100 students) and science (over 80 students) tests than in past years.
Student's results are being mailed home today.

We are proud of the students' test results. We'd also like to thank all of the teachers, tutors, and parents who ensured the students were prepared to do a good job when the testing days arrived. Passing the MCAS tests is a graduation requirement, and we want all Plymouth South High School students to have a diploma that represents a high school experience that has prepared them to be successful on their college or career paths.

IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES AT PSHS:
September 29, 2012 - Plymouth South High School Homecoming Dance will be held at Plymouth South from 7:00 PM to 10:30 PM.  Tickets will be sold at lunches starting Monday, Sept. 24th through Thursday, Sept. 28th.

October 2, 2012 - Service Academy Information Night:  For qualified high school seniors seeking an appointment to one of our nation's service academies.  Congressman William Keating will be presenting information at Plymouth Community Intermediate School on Tuesday October 2, 2012 at 6:15.  If you plan to attend, please register by calling (508) 746-9000.

October 4, 2012 - Open House/Back to School Night at Plymouth South High School.  Starting at 7:00 P.M. all staff and parents will start in their student's period A class.  From 7-7:10 announcements will be made and a short video will be presented on classroom TVs.  Parents will then follow their student's schedule. Letters were mailed home for students to fill out a schedule for parents to follow.  Hope to see you all there!
