Cold Spring Elementary News It's in the Bag!
This week, Mrs. Egan's and Mr. Walt's 3rd graders put on quite a biography presentation. After three weeks of research, note taking, and writing reports about a person of their own choosing, the students set up in the gym and taught us all about their famous person. There were gymnasts, people from the American Revolution (some in full-costume), and popular musicians (again, some in full costume). Each student prepared a bag with information about their famous person on the outside, made a timeline of their life, then placed objects in the bag that represented notable moments or characteristics. Everyone learned so much- including the adults!

Indian Brook Elementary News
3rd Graders Gain some Native American Perspective
Dan Cripps from Native American Perspectives visited the 3rd grade classes recently, to discuss with them how the Native Americans lived and what common materials they used in their day to day lives. He used examples including birch trees and moose antlers, asking the students to think about what part of America a tribe using such materials would hail from.

Indian Brook's Green Thumb
The students at Indian Brook have been busy planting their garden beds in the Outdoor Classroom. Each class has chosen plants for their beds, turning the soil and then doing the planting themselves. Some of the planting beds include: Miss Lane's kindergarten class - tomatoes and basil, Mrs. Chase's 1st grade class - french marigolds and vines (for which they built their own trellis), Mrs. Sullivan's 2nd grade class - petunias, Mrs. Canducci's 3rd grade class - lettuces and pumpkins (which will be ready for havest in the Fall!).

Indian Brook school celebrated its 35th anniversary
The students were greeted as they came into school on May 22nd with balloons and green and silver beaded necklaces. During lunch students sang "Happy Birthday to Indian Brook" and were treated to a specially decorated cake. The students were asked to imagine what it was like to be those students that came to this school for the first time in 1977 before flat screen television, cell phones, texting, microwaves and Google. There have been many amazing changes since the opening of our school and our students will be making those amazing changes in the next 35 years.
GO RED!! GO YELLOW!! GO GREEN!! GO BLUE!!
The Brook had its Annual Field Day on May 30th. The fun and laughter were heard around the whole building throughout the day as the children participated in numerous races, games and activities. Many thanks to Ms. Guarnotta (IBES Physical Education Teacher) for organizing such a fantastic event. The event wouldn't have been such a success without all the parents/guardians that volunteered to supervise the events. Many thanks to all those parents/guardians that took time out of their busy schedules to make the day fun for our students. |
