Project Plymouth

The 8th grade students in Mr. Hall's Civics class at Plymouth South Middle School are currently working on a yearlong service project titled "Project Plymouth". Over the course of this school year the students will come up with an idea for a project that can improve the town of Plymouth. In their civics and problem solving class the students will then research and create a plan mapping out what it will take to achieve their goal. Finally the entire class will put this plan into action and complete the project. The groups are currently using the new 3rd floor Mac Lab to create a presentation to "sell" their idea to the rest of the students. The final project will be announced in the near future.

Plymouth South High School News

Tonight Plymouth South Football is playing Sandwich with a chance to start off 2-0 in the league. Come support the Panthers!

The Sophomore and Junior classes at Plymouth South High School all got the chance to take part in the PSAT's on Wednesday, Oct. 12th through a government grant. In years past students had to sign-up for and take the PSAT's on their own, at their own expense.

Saturday, Oct. 15th is the Plymouth South Boosters Club Golf Tournament at Atlantic Country Club. We are hoping for a good turnout for golf as well as dinner afterwards. Golf will begin at 12:30.

Plymouth South is raising awareness for the upcoming college fair. The staff is being asked to wear a shirt from their Alma Mater to support the fair on Tuesday, Oct. 18th.

The senior project orientation breakfast is being held on Friday, Oct. 14th in the Southside Cafe. Seniors, parents, and mentors are being introduced to the idea of this year's senior projects.

The girls soccer team is trying to make a postseason tournament run with 8 games to go!! They need a possible 7 points out of a possible 16 points left on the schedule to get into the tournament.

On Sunday, October 2nd, 22 Cosmetology students rose very early to attend the Boston Strides for Cancer Walk at the Esplanade in Boston. They didn't use their feet to raise the money, they used their hands. For $10 participants could enhance their already spirited pink costumes with shiney pink hair tinsel. The students used team work and their charming customer service techniques to add $690 to the fundraiser. This was an outstanding example of compassion and the future cosmetologists saw how their efforts could make a difference. . We all look forward to next year, where we intend to bring more students along and add face painting to our services offered.

ALSO:   The PSHS Cosmetology students have been busy lending their hands to a very worthy cause.  In support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the students have been fundraising during lunches by adding 3 strands of colorful pink tinsel or "Pink Hair Bling" to students' hair for a $1.00 donation.  All proceeds will benefit Strides for Cancer, and American Cancer Society sponsored walk.  So far, the girls have raised almost $100, and this effort will continue throughout the entire month of October.

Friday, October 7th Band students in grades 6-8 were invited to join the Plymouth High School Band to get a closer look at what the Marching Band does during a Friday night football game.  They were able to play with the band during the Pre-game Ceremonies and sit with the band playing pep tunes during the first half of the game.  As you can see by the pictures it was a great experience for all involved.

The Band will be performing at the South game Friday night.

Tutorials for High School Mathematics

Students or parents who would like to review or learn some high school math topics are encouraged to go to the following web site:  http://ohiorc.org/for/math/tutorials/default.aspx
At the Tutorials for High School Mathematics site, you will find twenty-six online tutorial lessons designed to help students review high school mathematics topics. The topics are basic to student success in post-secondary science, computer science, and engineering courses.

Each tutorial lesson features a short video of a teacher reviewing the key mathematical procedures and ideas and demonstrating their application. Students are encouraged to work along as they watch the video. Several videos require the use of a graphing calculator. After viewing the video, students can take the Self-Check to evaluate their understanding of the topic.
