Manomet Elementary School recently hosted the Boston Bruins ICE Girls!  Fourth grade teacher, Nancy Cavicchi, was contacted by a Boston Bruins representative announcing that Manomet Elementary was one of the few Massachusetts schools chosen to host a community education project called I.C.E., (I Can Excel)!

This program provides elementary schools in Massachusetts with curriculum materials incorporating the sport of hockey and the Boston Bruins into lesson plans that align with Massachusetts Framework Guidelines for schools.  Examples of lesson plans provided include graphing, identifying landmarks, statistical tracking, resolving conflict and tracking the various climates in cities across the country.

The students created banners and posters welcoming the ICE Girls and the Boston Bruins mascot, Blades!

Third graders Oliver Trask and Christopher Duane show their hand made banner.

Kelsey Bell Isle, grade 1, participated in the Q & A segment of the program.

Speech pathologist, Rebecca Durocher, and second grade teacher, Jen Smith, show team spirit.

First graders and their teachers, Holly Delano, Michelle Butler, and Amanda Crosby join blades for a photo op.

The 5th graders join Blades, the Bruins mascot.

Fourth graders Rico Stracco, Meaghan Duffy, Cameron caraher, Alyssa St. Croix and Dominic Antonellis hold the welcome banner with Blades.

PNHS Students take a seat at the House

Students Carissa Brown and Connor O' Dwyer attended the Student Government Day at the state house. They discussed and argued a proposed bill on schools selling sugared drinks at an assembly. The students were addressed by Governor Duval Patrick. They went into the General Assembly Chamber where they role played their representative. Luckily the student's representative is Teresa Murray, Senate President. Connor O' Dwyer played the role of Ms. Murray and ran the general assembly from the Dias. The afternoon was spent with the students passing another bill in the senate chamber and learning proper protocol and decorum. Finally, the students were given a tour of Ms. Murray's office.
