Weekly Quote:

"If a man empties his purse into his head, no man can take it away from him. An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest."

-- Benjamin Franklin

Superintendent Gary Maestas will go for the ride of his life!

Dr. Gary Maestas plans to raise money for Plymouth students by riding a bicycle from Washington, DC, to Plymouth, MA! Through this incredible journey, now named "DreamRide," Dr. Maestas' goal is to raise $100,000 in donations for the Plymouth Education Foundation, the premier, non-profit organization established to support and enhance the education of the students and citizens of the Town of Plymouth.

Beginning June 6, Dr. Maestas, accompanied by a DreamRide Team comprised of students, teachers and a nurse, will bike approximately 600 miles from DC to Plymouth over a seven-day period. DreamRide plans to raise money via sponsorships.

There are many valuable lessons to be learned from this journey.  "Sure, the goal is to raise money, specifically $100,000, but we're just as interested in setting an example for students," said Maestas. "When faced with a problem or challenge, I want students to learn to think outside the box."

For complete information on the DreamRide, including sponsorship and volunteer information, please visit www.dreamride.us or contact Mrs. Nicole Manfredi, DreamRide Director at (781) 831-0731 or nsmanfredi@aol.com.

Manomet Elementary 2nd graders read the Caldecott Award winning story entitled; Officer Buckle and Gloria.  The story is about a police officer sharing safety tips with school children while his dog, Gloria, steals the show. Two Plymouth County Sheriff's Department deputies visited Manomet with their K-9 dogs and these dogs stole the show as well!  Deputy Pat Charette with his dog, Hondo, and Deputy Kevin Ardini with his dog, Bodo, demonstrated various commands and procedures to the children. They also shared with them their unique roles as dog handlers  in the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department.

The children enjoy patting Bodo after the demonstration.

PNHS  SADD hopes to make students think  Under the direction of Guidance Counselor Andrea Norton the students involved with Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) held their annual "Dead Day".  This "Dead Day" is both a verbal and a visual way to convey the consequences a student can receive by making a "destructive decision".  Each period of the day starts off with a student reading a fictional scenario depicting their classmates in a situation where they make a bad choice with regards to drinking and driving, drugs, etc.   After this announcement is made the students involved in this scenario then receive makeup, bandages, etc. to depict the injuries that resulted from the "destructive decision."  Although all students are aware that "Dead Day" is fictional it is the hope of all involved that the day-long event will make students remember this day should they ever be presented with a choice that could impact the rest of their lives.   The students hoping to make a difference with this event were Kevin Edson, Holly Martz, Erika Prince, Mike Thornton, Shannon Tolles, Sam Levangie, Alex Ariagno, Sean Serrilla, Leslie Moron, Maggie Burt, Hannah Rehlander, Alyssa Flannery, Brittany Dhooge, Amy Riordan and Megan Cappola.
