Plymouth Public Schools School Committee Meetings:
The next regular meeting of the Plymouth School Committee will be Monday, January 24, 2011. School Committee meetings are held at Plymouth Community Intermediate School in the Little Theatre. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m.

Plymouth Students Honor Martin Luther King Jr.
At the 17th Annual Greater Plymouth Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast held on January 17th Plymouth Public School students were recognized for their essay and poster contents winning entries.
Poster winners were: Grade 1 Ava Gravina (Nathaniel Morton) Grade 2 EllaFurman (Cold Spring) Grade 3 Eric Chase (Federal Furnace) Grade 4 Caetlin O'Brien (Manomet) Grade 5 Kyle Hicks (Hedge) and Grade Six Marie Bates (PCIS).
Essay winners were Grade 6 Connor Lovendale (PCIS), Grade 9 Daniel O'Rourke (PNHS), and Grade 11 Libby Brigida (PNHS).
Two high school seniors were named Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars for their contributions to their schools and community. Hannah Shepherd (PSHS) and Florence Gonsalves (PNHS) were awarded that honor.
In addition, the Plymouth High Schools Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo provided entertainment. Culinary students from PSHS provided the breakfast. |

Manomet Elementary News
The 2nd grade students at Manomet Elementary recently celebrated PENGUIN AWARENESS DAY. Students dressed in black and white and enjoyed a day of penguin math, reading about penguins, writing poems about penguins and solving penguin puzzles. They had a great time!

Manomet Elementary students recently enjoyed a puppet theatre production of JABBERWOCKY. Children explored the magical world of poetry through Lewis Carroll's Alice Through the Looking Glass performed by the Crabtree Puppet Theatre. This was made possible to the students through the Manomet Home School Association.

Plymouth North High School News
Sweet Charity Musical Production The combined Plymouth North and Plymouth South Musical Production of Sweet Charity will be on February 11th & 12th at Plymouth North High School. Curtain time is 8pm. Tickets: $10. Tickets will be available for purchase during all lunches beginning next week at both Plymouth North and Plymouth South High Schools. You may also purchase tickets at the door or by contacting the Unified Arts Department at 508-830-4348.
Plymouth North students succeed in Martin Luther King Jr. Essay contest. Students from the Plymouth schools were invited to enter poster and essay contests in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The winners of these contests and the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars were announced during Monday morning's prayer breakfast. The essay contest winners are: grade 9, Elissa Corthell; grade 10, Daniel O'Rourke; and grade 11, Libby Brigida. The Martin Luther King Jr. scholar is senior Florence Gonsalves. Eagle on the Web The latest edition of The Eagle came out at the end of December. It is available electronically, and students and staff were also given a free printed copy at school. It is comprised of the writing of student volunteers and the members of Ms. Jaruse's journalism classes. The next Eagle edition will be coming out in March. PCIS News
PCIS Geography Bee Bee your very best! This was the motto for 26 PCIS students this past Wednesday, January 19, as they competed in this year's Geography Bee, a national competition put on by the National Geographic Society. This double elimination, question/answer format tournament had participants from grades 6-8. PCIS teachers Amy Brown, Larry Palagi, Joanne Keizer, and Derek Strohschneider organized the event which crowned 7th grade Ranger house student, Lauren Badeau, as the school's champion. By winning at the building level, Lauren qualified for the state competition. Lauren will be taking a geography test administered by Ms. Brown and if she scores in the Top 100 at the state level, she will move on to the regional level. Congratulations to Lauren Badeau, all the participants of this year's Geography Bee, and the PCIS team of teachers for their hard work! You continue to make us proud. Students' Night Out at PCIS - Friday, January 28, 2011 Next Friday, January 28th, PCIS Interscholastic Athletics will sponsor the 3rd annual Students' Night Out. Students' Night Out is an after-hours event where PCIS administrators, teachers, and support staff collaborate to organize a variety of activities for our middle school students to participate in. This highly anticipated event, which currently has 30 staff member volunteers, is designed to give kids a safe and exciting place to hang out on a Friday night. Some of Students' Night Out favorite activities include the asteroids tournament, nail salon, ping-pong competition, video game area, BINGO, jam session, and picture booth. Additionally, during this annual festivity, PCIS serves as an entertainment venue and offers the opportunity for a local PCIS band to promote and perform for their peers. |
Plymouth South High School News:
The deadline to order a basic yearbook is Friday, January 28th. The deadline for personalized yearbooks is January 24th. Yearbooks can be ordered online at www.jostens.com and paper order forms can be given to Ms. MacNally or Mrs. Molloy. Report Cards: First semester closes today. Students will receive report cards next Friday, January 28, 2011. PSHS would like to congratulate two of our teachers, Matthew Carpenito and Sally Stevens for being chosen by the College Board Advanced Placement Program to serve as AP Readers at this year's annual AP Reading. They will join approximately 11,000 college faculty and AP teachers from around the world in June, 2011 at five different sites to evaluate and score about 11 million free-response answers.

PSMS GEOGRAPHY BEE WINNER
Congratulations to eighth grader Robert Manson for winning the Plymouth South Middle School National Geographic Geography Bee on Wednesday, January 19th. In a close contest, Robert was able to outlast 27 other competitors. He will now take a written test in hopes of qualifying for the state level competition to be held in Worcester, MA later this spring. Robert is pictured with Mr. Herbert and Mr. Murphy, PSMS geography teachers.
