Habitat for Humanity and the Plymouth Schools Team Up!

Students and faculty from the Plymouth Schools are joining with Habitat for Humanity to build a dream playhouse.  Students are learning about the need for affordable housing as they help to make a difference in the lives of families in our community.

Students have donated and decorated beams that will be used in the playhouse.  Teachers have been working in their classrooms to educated students about homelessness and the work that Habitat for Humanity does.  Throughout the year the Plymouth schools have plans to continue work with Habitat for Humanity.

You can enter to win the Habitat Winter 2010 Playhouse! The Playhouse will be on display at the Independence Mall until January 8th.  You can view it as it is being built!  Buy raffle tickets at the mall for $5 for one ticket or make a $20 donation and get four tickets plus one free!  Or visit www.hfhplymouth.org and click on the playhouse link to use the secure online purchasing system with Paypal to get your Raffle Tickets.  The winner will be drawn on January 8th.  This is a great cause to support!

Twelve members of the PSMS Ecology Club with Mr. Skinner and Mrs. Bradley visited the New England Aquarium on Saturday, Dec. 18.  These students toured the Aquarium paying particular attention to the Giant Tank and the Jellies exhibit.  Following exploration of the Aquarium, they proceeded to the 3-D IMAX Theater to view the movie "SeaRex".  This movie explored prehistoric marine reptiles.  Following the movie, the club members walked over to Quincy Market for lunch.  A good time was had by all!  We would especially like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Rogers for providing transportation for a number of the club members.

Plymouth North High School News

Project Impact raised over $150 and purchased gifts cards to Walmart and Stop and Shop to provide two families of PNHS with help towards a Merry Christmas.  The money came from the sale of homemade ornaments, Thanksgiving Day cards, and bracelets. The students and staff really stepped up and donated money as well as purchased the items to spread joy to members of the PN community who will benefit from the generosity.

The piano classes at Plymouth North put on holiday recitals on Wednesday during the school day and they were great successes!  Many parents, relatives, and friends attended, and the performers put on a wonderful show!

Congratulations to:

Jacqueline Bletzer ,Erica Burke, Sarah Schofield, Kess Moneyhun, Kristi Knisley, Smerling de los Santos, Ryan Ross, Danielle Tanner, Nick Cash, Nicole Day, Chris Taylor, Jason Russell, Kyle Maynard, Nick Caccialini, Eric Foley, Natalya Papa, Haley Nason, Lexi Weathers, Brett Sparrow, Virginia Marco, Reardon Swenson-Hayward, and Cori Enos!

Thank you to the Plymouth North community who so generously donated to the Children's Holiday Fund. Together we collected many toys, games, gift certificates and clothing, and have made a difference in the lives of some deserving children this holiday season. Our tree has quite a few ornaments adorning it because of you! We're grateful for your support.

Holiday Card Exchange Project

Second grade students at Federal Furnace and West Elementary Schools participated in a holiday card exchange project to celebrate the December holidays. Technology integration specialist Karen Winsper learned about the project online at www.projectsbyjen.com and organized the second grade participation.

Each classroom was teamed up with 24 other classrooms around the world to exchange cards. Students created original cards within their classrooms and mailed them out at the beginning of December. When the classrooms began to receive cards, students were very excited to learn about similarities and differences between themselves and their partner classes.

All of the cards received were collected for a display at each school which includes a map with pushpins indicating the senders' locations. Cards have been received from over twenty-six states, British Columbia and Manitoba Canada, Dublin, Ireland and even a military base in Germany! Students utilized GoogleEarth to explore locations and one class was able to Skype with a partner class in Pennsylvania. It was a memorable project for all involved!

Plymouth South High School News:

The Dove Self Esteem Movement's mission is to encourage young girls to develop a positve relationship with beauty and help raise self-esteem and kindness. Plymouth South High School students Amy Drazek, Brianna Corsini, and Kaya Callanan have brought the movement to Plymouth South Middle School in the form of an interactive workshop designed by the girls that includes a power point presentation, worksheets, discussions, activities, and even a sound track. The goal of the workshop is to help girls discover their inner beauty and to inform them of the stereotypical views of the media's deceptive defintion of beauty. The ultimate goal is for girls to leave the workshop with greater confidence in themselves and to spread confidence and kindness to others.

Happy Holidays to All from Plymouth South HIgh School!
