Greetings!
Friday notes is a weekly update from Superintendent Gary E. Maestas on the happenings within the Plymouth Public Schools.
Plymouth Public Schools School Committee Meetings:
The next Plymouth School Committee is scheduled for September 14, 2009 at Plymouth Community Intermediate School. The meeting starts at 7:00 P.M.
President Obama Speech on September 8th.

On Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at noon, President Obama will talk directly to students across the country on the importance of taking responsibility for their education, challenging them to set goals and to do everything they can to succeed. The address, which will last about fifteen minutes, will be broadcast live from the White House and can be viewed via live stream at http://www.whitehouse.gov/live/.
As a school district, we are not mandating our students to view the speech. As a result, the speech will be recorded  and will be shown via our local education station ED TV at 7 PM on September 8th.( Comcast Ch. 14 and Verizon Ch. 45)  DVDs will be available if staff choose to use the speech at a later date as a teaching tool.  In the event that teachers use the video, students will have the opportunity to opt out and an alternative assignment in another location will be made available.

Hedge Elementary Schools Gains Wal-Mart Grant:

Thank you Wal-Mart!  Wal-Mart awarded Hedge School a $2000.00 grant to benefit the students of Hedge School.  As a result, Hedge will begin a "Hedge Academy" session this fall.  Hedge Academy is after school program for students.
Target Stores Focus on Hedge:

Target awarded Hedge School a $500.00 Library Makeover through First Book.  We are expecting almost 220 books to be arriving in our library.
Strategic Planning Stakeholders Survey Made Available

The Plymouth Public Schools is currently working with a large group of parents, teachers, administrators, and community members on a District Strategic Plan.  As part of the information-gathering process, we are asking parents and community members to complete a survey to help this group develop the Strategic Plan.  We are very interested in your opinion so that we may use this information to set the direction of and the future of the Plymouth Public Schools.

The Plymouth Public Schools Stakeholders Survey will take between 5-10 minutes and can be completed by clicking on the link below or you can complete a paper version of the survey that is available at several locations identified below.  The survey will be accepted until October 30th and your identity will be kept completely anonymous.  Once all the surveys are tabulated, the results will be shared on our school district website.

Paper copies are available at the Plymouth Public Libraries, Plymouth Town Hall and at all of Plymouth's school buildings.  Drop boxes are available at these locations for you to return your survey.

Thank you for your input.
