South Elementary Teacher
Ramona Almeida

Ms. Ramona Almeida, fourth grade teacher at South Elementary School, was named Plymouth Wal-Mart's Teacher of the Year on Monday, September 22, 2008. "Ms. Almeida is firm, fair and fun. She uses lots of hands-on activities," wrote former students, Marina O. and Renee and Rachel M. "Please, please, please, please, please give her the award."
Wal-Mart's Shirley Cruickshank presented Ms. Almeida with a check for one thousand dollars for South School and a $100 gift card to purchase classroom supplies. Almeida immediately responded that she would like to see the money fund an excursion for all fourth grade students on the Capt. John Boats' Floating Science Lab.
Ms. Almeida has been teaching in the Plymouth Schools for more than twenty years. She is a graduate of Plymouth-Carver High School.

UNDERSTANDING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ADOLESCENT BRAIN & SOCIAL HOST LIABILITY LAWS
Date: October 23,2008
Place: Plymouth North High School (Auditorium)
Registration: 6:30pm
Program: 7:00pm
Marisa M. Silveri, Ph.D., Harvard Medical School
Understanding the Development of the Adolescent Brain
To provide health education to the parents, teachers and members of the community,
the seminar consists of a Power Point presentation by Dr. Marisa M. Silveri, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School and Associate Research Psychologist at Mclean Hospital. The presentation focuses on MRI based evidence that demonstrates the rapid maturation of brain structure and cognitive functioning during the adolescent period. Data also are presented that illustrate the consequences of alcohol and drug use on brain function during adolescence. A brief question and answerperiod will follow.
Attorney Richard Campbell, Campbell and Campbell Law Firm BE A PARENT, NOT A PAL: Understanding Social Host Liability Laws "Learn about the trends in the social host liability laws and how underage drinking in
your home could impact you legally. The presentation describes the cases that led to changes in the law and tells stories of the victims of underage drinking as well as of
the individuals that have been prosecuted under the new law. Hear about what happens when good kids make bad decisions and when well-meaning parents who think
that they are providing safe havens for their children and children's friends painfully discover that these havens are not safe after all. Become informed about the liability
to social hosts when civil actions with millions of dollars at stake rapidly follow criminal prosecutions. Find out about new perspectives on the question, "Mom, Dad, can I have a party here at the house? Some of the kids will be drinking, but since I'll collect all of the car keys, we'll be safe, and everything will be just fine."
