Greetings!

The signs of winter are everywhere. The days are getting shorter and a thin layer of ice is starting to form on walkways and surfaces. Remember to slow down and be careful. Keep safety top of mind at all times, at work and at home.

This issue of Insight shares information on the variety of safety education courses we offer, provides information on the upcoming assessment rate announcement, offers a sneak peak at our fall 2011 edition of Reflections, and introduces online bill payments. Have a warm and safe season, and remember to prepare yourself for the weather ahead.

Sincerely,

Dave Grundy

President & CEO

2012 Assessment Rates
2012 Assessment Rates

Every year our Governance Council, with advice from an independent actuary , sets the Provisional Average Assessment Rate and the individual rates for each sub-class. This announcement takes place November 1, 2011.

All employers registered in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut will receive an assessment rates package in the mail following the announcement. This package includes a rate guide that provides the specific rate for your industry subclass.

If you have any questions about our rates, please email Susan Abernethy, Manager, Employer Services, or call (867) 920-3843, or toll free 1-800-661-0792.

Reflections
Saying Goodbye to Reflections Magazine

The Fall 2011 issue of Reflections is almost ready to hit the press, a November release. Some of the articles include:

  • Hand Protection;
  • Permanent Medical Impairment (PMI);
  • Looking Back: Reflections Retrospective;
  • Mercury: What It Means for Safety in the North; and
  • Present and Accounted For: Mine Rescue in the North.

It is with excitement and sadness we put the Fall issue to bed; with all good things, Reflections too, must end.

Our stakeholders spoke and we responded. We will no longer produce a printed magazine. WSCC staff are busy creating a new electronic publication, available in 2012, that will be more environmentally and fiscally responsible. Email us if you want to receive this new publication.
