about cyclones Ului (Solomons) and Tomas (Fiji)

Terrible Twins - Cyclones Ului (left) and Tomas lie over the South Pacific
Satellite view of Cyclones Ului and Tomas
Ului is today losing power as it moves towards Australia and away from the Solomons.
High winds, big waves and tidal surges continue to batter some of the southern islands where people have been moved away from the coast. No lose of life is reported.

Tomas has caused a lot of damage with one person killed in Fiji (that we know of). It too is moving away but still battering the country

It appears the Gud Nius Redio transmitter failed because the FM antenna was damaged by wind. A technician will take a look as soon as it's safe.

Tina Lemazi (Station Manager) and the staff of Gud Nius FM
asked me to thank you for praying. Please continue to pray
for the station back on as soon as possible.

Both Ului and Tomas are bigger than Hurricane Katrina that caused so much damage to New Orleans in 2005.
Are cyclones God's judgment?
People often say they are. But are they?
Sometimes people even point to political or church leaders whose actions (they say) have caused God to bring judgment.

But if this is true,
every nation and person on earth should be
wiped out by massive disasters and destruction
because the Bible says that every person on earth
has sinned and deserves destruction
(see Romans 5:12 for example)

The Bible also tells us that because of God's mercy, He holds back judgment and destruction. For now!
In the Bible book of Revelations (and elsewhere) we read about judgment to come upon all mankind in the future.

Jesus talked about this idea of present judgment and punishment in Luke 13:1-5. In verses 4,5 He said -
"And what about the eighteen men who died when the Tower of Siloam fell on them? Were they the worst sinners in Jerusalem? No, and I tell you again that unless you repent, you will also perish."
And in John 9:3,4 Jesus answered another question -
"It was not because of his sins or his parents' sins," Jesus answered. "He was born blind so the power of God could be seen in him.
All of us must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent me, because there is little time left before the night falls and all work comes to an end."

One thing I've learned as I've followed Jesus. He always talks to me about my own attitudes and actions - not those of other people. I get two personal messages from His words.
  1. It's only by God's great mercy and grace through Jesus Christ that I do not get the destruction I deserve!
    Thank you Jesus
  2. There are still many people who need to hear the Gospel and repent (change). Maybe their hearts will be more open to receive Jesus in times of disaster and hardship?
What am I doing about the opportunity?
"There is little time left before the night falls
and all work comes to an end" (John 9:4)

Graham Carter
"So everywhere we go
we tell everyone about Christ
for we want to present them to God,
perfect in their relationship to Christ.
I work very hard at this, as I depend on Christ's mighty power that works within me."
(Colossians 1:28,29)

May God bless you
