Greetings!

Yesterday I got an email from Steve Clark,
Manager of Christian radio "The Change 104.1FM".
One week away from
running out of diesel and electricity
Steve emails,
"The government has just declared a state of emergency in all areas from fuel, electricity, food and basic life sustainment items. . .
We have cut back on electricity use by converting to propane and using a grill.  This is helping us to keep operating in all other areas.
The government is looking to cut all sales of diesel and coconut oil to private users to save it for government uses."

Yesterday this was in the news on our radio stations -
"Marhalls Face Blackout Over Fuel Bills
Needs $8.5 million fast to keep power plant operating WELLINGTON, New Zealand
(Radio New Zealand International, July 4, 2008)

The Marshall Islands has declared a state of economic emergency to fast-track domestic energy reduction and cost cutting measures, while lending weight to appeals to donor countries for help.
Despite three electricity tariff increases since January, the national power utilities are projected to face an estimated shortfall of US$17.5 million to $21 million over the next 12 months. This deficit amounts to close to 20 percent of the entire national budget.

The Marshall Islands has enough power plant fuel on island to keep the lights on until the end of August.
But if it can't come up with US$8.5 million by next weekend to pay for last month's diesel shipment and a down payment on the next shipment, the country will run out of fuel.

The Marshalls Energy Company has told Cabinet that without an immediate cash injection, it cannot raise the $8.5 million by next weekend."
There are alternative power sources
to keep the Lord's ministry operating
Next week we are meeting with Missionary Ventures (our partners in the Marshall Islands) to discuss wind and solar power generation.
This will take a large sum of money to set up, but it will save money in the long term (diesel generated electricity is very expensive, while sun and wind are free) and allow the ministry to be less effected by the local economy.

However, it will take months to raise money, ship the equipment and get it all set up.  How is the ministry to operate in the meantime?
Only God knows the answer!
God knew this was coming and He will have a plan
So please pray . . .

  • For the people of the Marshall Islands.
No fuel means no electricity, no transportation, which will quickly turn into no jobs and food shortages.
  • For the Lord's work in Majuro. That He will supply alternative power so Steve and his team can continue ministering the Gospel at this time of need in the community.
With faith and courage Steve says,
"We serve an awesome God and we know he has everything in control. . . This is not a message of defeat but one of victory.
When we have a storm that's when God shows up and provides everything we need.  All is well here and the Gospel is going forward, the Kingdom is being built.  We praise God that He provides all that we need!
Thanks for all of your prayers and support. Be blessed and have an awesome day in Jesus!"
