Tok Tok - funeral delays opening of new station
UCB Pacific Partners                                                                     08 May 2008
Greetings!

Sadly, the death of a prominent leader
has meant "The Change 104.1FM" didn't come to air as planned.

While different in each Island culture, there is always a very public show of mourning when a family member dies. If a national church or cultural leader dies, the mourning becomes a national event. In aural cultures, history is marked by the passing of national figures so their death is a time public sorrow and respect. Stories are told.

In some countries, songs and dances are developed to pass the stories down the generations. In other countries, people are expected to wear only black clothing and old mats to show humility and respect. And there are special church services and memorial events. Public mourning for an important person can sometimes last for months.

So Steve Clarke (Field coordinators for Missionary Ventures) and the staff in Majuro wisely decided a public opening and celebration for the new station would be inappropriate. I'll let you know when the station starts broadcasting.

The next radio project
At the weekend I travel to the Solomon Islands . . .

for board meetings to meet with the Gud Nius Redio board and plan the two relay stations we're planting in Gizo and Auki.

You will remember
the devastating earthquake and tsunami last year
, and the HCJB Global medical aid team we hosted from Ecuador.

[ read about the relief teams ]

Well, HCJB Global has since generously offered to meet most of the cost of setting up a Christian radio station in the effected area (Western Province of Solomon Islands).

This station, plus another at Auki (Malaita Province) is the next radio project for UCB Pacific Partners.

Please pray
for the Marshall and Solomon Islands
and for my health as I work in the heat and humidity

When I think of the Islands
I think of so many small and isolated places
full of people who still need to hear
the simple and powerful Gospel of Jesus Christ.

God has raised up UCB Pacific Partners
to tell His isolated Pacific people about Jesus.
And he has brought you in too
as our Partner in this important work.
