Action Alert

Call or E-mail Senator Alting TODAY!

Action AlertToday, Thursday Jan. 10. 2008, the Indiana Senate Judiciary Committee will consider a bill that threatens the health of Hoosier women and the religious freedom of all citizens. Senator Ron Alting is on that committee. We are asking all IRCRC friends and members who live in District 22 to contact Senator Alting today and ask him to oppose the bill.

Senate Bill 146 would:
  • require doctors to give patients seeking abortions information that is not supported by medical science
  • require doctors to tell patients that life begins at conception, a religious and philosophical belief which varies among faith groups
  • require doctors who perform abortion services to have hospital privileges at a nearby hospital, a requirement that is uneccessary and would lead to the closing of clinics, especialy those whose only nearby hospital is a Catholic hospital.

This bill will do nothing to reduce abortions in Indiana. However, it will endanger lives by reducing access to reproductive health care. It will also force one religious view upon all citizens, jeopardizing everyone's religious freedom.

Please call Senator Alting today and tell him that rather than trying to create restrictions, legislators should be working on PREVENTION. Multiple studies show that the only effective way to reduce abortion is to reduce the rate of unplanned pregnancy by developing family planning programs, protecting access to birth control, and improving sex education in Indiana schools. THIS is what Indiana legislators should be working on.

Please call 800-382-9467 before 2:00pm. Ask for Senator Alting's office. You may leave a simple message. GIve your name and address, say that you would like Senator Alting to oppose Senate Bill 146, and that you think he should be working for PREVENTION, not restrictions.

If you are unable to call, please send an e-mail to Senator Alting at s22@in.gov. Please compose an original message from your own e-mail account. Do NOT forward this e-newsletter to Sen. Alting. (Do forward it to your friends, however.)

Thanks for keeping the faith for choice.
