Summer is Here!

Plan 'Fit' Outdoor Activities

Biking Family

For most people Memorial Day signifies the start of summer time activities.  When you are planning your weekends or even your summer vacation, plan in some "Fit" activities. A lot of times these activities can be cost effective and the family can do them together.

Just being outside and active with your family is beneficial to your health.  Here are some suggestions that are active and fun.

  • We can take advantage of the sunny days and go for a walk with the family, either around town or out on some hiking trails.
  • Get the bikes out, fill up the tires and go for a bike ride.  If you have small children, you can use a bike trailer to pull your children behind you.  The kids have fun and you get an extra workout.  Try out one of the local rail trail bike paths (pack a picnic lunch to take with you).
  • Make an outdoor obstacle course and have the whole family run through it. (Here's some ideas:  hopscotch, hula hoops, toss balls into a bucket, relay race, jump rope, three legged race, sack race.)
  • Play tug of war with a rope.
  • An old fashion came of tag is always fun.
  • Hide and Seek
  • Have a water balloon fight.  You will get some running in.
  • Duck, Duck Goose involves running.

We tend to forget about the old games we played as kids.  Just make the activities fun and everyone will benefit; young and old.
