United Airlines passengers who do not meet specific size limits may be forced to shell out a bit more cash or remain grounded.
They're not talking about the specific size limits on a passenger's luggage. They're talking about the size of the passenger. The airline has put into place new requirements on the size of the passenger that purchases a single ticket for themselves.
The new requirements states that passengers must be able to:
- Fit into a single seat in the ticketed cabin;
- Properly buckle the seatbelt using a single belt extender;
- Put the seat's armrests down when seated
When a customer can't meet the requirements they are given a few options depending on the seating that's available. If there are other seats available on the flight in the same cabin they can move to a seat with an empty seat next to them.
If no seat is available they will need to purchase an upgrade to the next cabin level that has available two adjacent seats available or change their ticket to the next available flight where they will need to purchase two seats. If the customer chooses not to purchase the extra seat they will be barred from boarding.
On Fox 25 news they said that a person who weighs 350lbs or more will most likely need to purchase an additional ticket if there aren't two empty seats available.
This rule has been an unspoken rule with most of the airlines. United has gone out on a limb by announcing it publicly.
If you are a large traveler you want to be aware of the size limitations.
