Spring into Action with a New Spring in Your Step
Now that Spring is here and the weather is getting warmer we want to be outside. It is time to get off the treadmill and start walking (maybe even running) outside.
There is something about walking outside where the scenery changes with each step and you leave the boredom of the treadmill behind.
Along with Spring comes many local road races.
- Why not set your goal on walking or running one of those races?
- It is just the kind of goal with a defined end date you may need to help work off those winter pounds you've accumulated.
If you've never run a race before don't panic.
- There is a website called CoolRunning.com that has a training program for you.
- It's called "The Couch to 5K Running Plan".
- You start out walking and a little running, 3X/week. Gradually over 2 months to increase the running so that you are running 5K 3X/week.
- You don't have to have the best running time in the race. You will feel accomplishment just in running or walking and finishing the race.
Make sure you do stretches for your shins to help you avoid shin splints.
Adding a little more spring into your step will help get you closer to your fitness goals. |
