Vacation Is No Excuse For "No Exercise"

Fitting Fitness In LogoNothing beats a winter getaway while waiting for the arrival of spring back home. But vacation is no excuse for "no exercise." Since we tend to splurge a bit more at the buffet table while on vacation, we need to make sure we exercise to keep our bodies and minds in balance. Here are some tips:

What to pack. Nope - you don't need to pack weights in your already crowded suitcase. Instead, pack resistance bands and tubing.  Doing some squats with bicep curls or lunges with front shoulder raises with help keep you fit while you are away.

Food log reality. Enjoy your vacation! But keep in mind your much less likely to make a glutton out of yourself if you maintain your food journal, even while you're enjoying those little drinks with the umbrellas in them. The difference might be having one dessert (a well-deserved treat!) instead of two or three.

Wear your pedometer. You'd be surprised at how much walking you do when you're not thinking about it, and you'll feel good if you know you're getting those steps in. It might be just the motivation you need to get off the beach towel and walk the length of the beach!

Vacation activities offer great workouts. From swimming to snorkeling, walking tours to light hikes, don't assume you won't be get in your workout routines. No, it may not resemble the exercise regimens you're used to doing, but that's the beauty of it. Your body and mind seek different routines and you might develop a new favorite activity, such as tennis, horseback riding, or rock climbing - activities you can easily take up back home.
