August 1, 2011

Greetings~

The first day of August finds Southwestern Illinois making progress on a number of fronts. Today's installment of NewsLink provides more evidence that our region is continuing to invest in commercial enterprise, housing, port operations and highway infrastructure. Combined with the ongoing efforts to improve the Metro East levees, it is clear that our private and public sector leaders are committed to building the region's economic success as described in last year's Vision 2020 Initiative.

We also wanted to draw your attention to Cassidy Turley's 2nd Quarter 2011 Industrial Report, which reveals that the St. Louis region's industrial market is picking up steam, with the Metro East leading the way. The report notes that Walgreens recently signed a twelve-year lease for a half-million square feet of modern bulk space at Gateway Commerce in Edwardsville, where Jung Companies also has signed on for more than 100,000 square feet of space. These transactions coupled with lease renewals and expansions at nearby Lakeview Commerce Center drove the Metro East's vacancy rate down to a historic low of 6.1%.

Have a great week!

Patrick
