Vision & Goals
 VISION

All Episcopalians in Hawai`i shall work together to create a Church filled with visible and spirit-driven Christians - Christians who are eager to share our Episcopal tradition and faith, and traditional Hawaiian spiritual values, with those who have not yet found a spiritual anchor in their lives.

GOALS

1)  Convert our Hearts to Accept Jesus' Gospel Message and to Live in a Deep Relationship with God.
2)  Transform the Episcopal Church in Hawai`i and Congregations to Vital and Vibrant Faith Communities.
3)  Evangelize to Share God's Love in Our Communities.
4)  Reduce the structure and administration costs of the Diocese so that its operations, including its bodies, are directed to supporting transformation and growth.

The Five Marks of Mission of the Worldwide Anglican Communion:

1)  To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom

2)  To teach, baptize and nurture new believers

3)  To respond to human need by loving service

4)  To seek to transform unjust structures of society

5)  To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth.

EYELogo 2011

Collect offered for the Episcopal Youth Event

Twenty four Hawai'i high school aged youth and six adult leaders will be heading off to Minnesota on June 21, representing the Diocese of Hawai'i at the triannual Episcopal Youth Event (EYE). Organizers encourage all parishes to pray the Collect for EYE from June 19 through June 30.  The Collect is posted in the left hand column of this E-News in the Prayer section, and also on the diocesan website.  Immediately after EYE, the Hawai'i group will head north to Ely, Minnesota, for the mission portion of their trip.  They will be taking part in environmental stewardship at the Mary Brown Environmental Learning Center.  For those of you that are on Facebook, be sure to follow the group in their daily activities where they will share their thoughts and experiences.

Trio sacred books

Faith Shared, Freedom Respected: Uniting in Prayer & Understanding

On Sunday, June 26, more than 50 churches in 36 states across the nation will open their pulpits to Christan priests, Muslim scholars or imams, and Jewish rabbis.  They will read from their scriptures to help the listeners find a common ground of understanding, as part of a national initiative of Interfaith Alliance and Human Rights First, called Faith Shared.

Here in Hawai'i, all are invited to attend this special service that celebrates the sacred texts, prayers and music of the Abrahamic faiths, and will take place at the Cathedral of St. Andrew, 229 Queen Emma Square in Honolulu, beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Bishop Robert Fitzpatrick will be speaking, along with other clergy and appointed persons who will be reading from their respective sacred texts; the Q'uran, the Torah, and the Bible.

Diocesan Legacy Society Celebrations

Have you remembered an Episcopal ministry (church, program, etc.) in your estate plans?  If so, you are a member of the Diocese's Ho'ike Ulu Legacy Society.  The Planned Giving Commission would like to include you when information is distributed.  All that's required is a minute to complete a form.  The sharing of the specifics of your estate plan is never necessary.

Annually, the Diocese of Hawai'i celebrates the generosity of the members of the Legacy Society.  This year, events will take place on the islands of Maui, Hawai'i, Oahu and Kaua'i.  The first of four celebrations will take place on Maui, on Saturday, July 9 at the Maui Lani Golf Course, followed by the Big Island, on July 24, Oahu, on August 13, and Kaua'i, in October.  Visit the diocesan website for more details on the luncheons being planned.

For more information on Planned Giving, visit the diocesan website

here, or contact Jane Tonokawa, Chair of the Planned Giving Commission.
