Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

All Episcopalians in Hawai`i shall work together to create a Church filled with visible and spirit-driven Christians - Christians who are eager to share our Episcopal tradition and faith, and traditional Hawaiian spiritual values, with those who have not yet found a spiritual anchor in their lives.
GOALS
1) Convert our Hearts to Accept Jesus' Gospel Message and to Live in a Deep Relationship with God. 2) Transform the Episcopal Church in Hawai`i and Congregations to Vital and Vibrant Faith Communities. 3) Evangelize to Share God's Love in Our Communities. 4) Reduce the structure and administration costs of the Diocese so that its operations, including its bodies, are directed to supporting transformation and growth.
The Five Marks of Mission of the Worldwide Anglican Communion:
1) To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom 2) To teach, baptize and nurture new believers 3) To respond to human need by loving service 4) To seek to transform unjust structures of society 5) To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth

St. Christopher's Welcomes New Rector
St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Kailua, welcomed their new Rector, the Reverend Dr. Giovan Venable King, who spent her first Sunday with the congregation on April 10th.
Rev. Giovan is from North Carolina, and was educated at Dartmouth College (A.B., Music), Harvard University (M.Div.), Stanford Law School (J.D.), and Virginia Theological Seminary (D.Min.). She was originally ordained a Congregational minister at First Congregational Church in Los Angeles (the first woman to be ordained and to serve at that Church) and spent over twenty years in Congregational ministry. Her Masters thesis was on "The Congregational Mission to Hawaii and Micronesia". While completing her doctorate, she transitioned into the Episcopal priesthood and, prior to joining St. Christopher's, Rev. Giovan served within the Diocese of Los Angeles at St. James', St. Edmund's in San Marino and Faith Episcopal Church in Laguna Niguel.
Rev. Giovan has written two hymns that appear in Hymn for a Pilgrim People and published two books, A City Built on a Hill and Running the Race from Greece to Albania, the latter related in part to her experiences as a marathoner raising fnds for Christian missions. She is an Associate of the Order of the Holy Cross and in the Order of St. Luke. Giovan and her husband, Tom, have three sons, and in their free time, enjoy playing tennis, biking, traveling and dancing.

Episcopal Church offers resources for observing Earth Day 2011 on April 22nd
With Earth Day 2011 on April 22nd nearly here, resources are available for observing and recognizing this annual event.
"This year, Earth Day falls within Holy Week, specifically on Good Friday, a profound coincidence," noted Mike Schut, Episcopal Economic and Environmental Affairs Officer. "To fully honor Earth Day, we need to reclaim the theology that knows Earth is 'very good', is holy. When we fully recognize that, our actions just may begin to create a more sustainable, compassionate economy and way of life."
He added, "And on Good Friday, the day we mark the crucifixion of Christ, God in the flesh, might we suggest that when Earth is degraded, when species go extinct, that another part of God's body experiences yet another sort of crucifixion -- that another way of seeing and experiencing God is diminished?"
Earth Day resources are available on The Episcopal Church website, and includes links to a number of worship aids and organizations committed to preserving our planet, such as Earth Ministry and Green Faith.

Good Friday Offering for Jerusalem and Middle East
The Good Friday offering to assist churches in Jerusalem and the Middle East, is a tradition in the Episcopal Church that dates over 80 years. The Presiding Bishop writes that the Good Friday offering, "offers us the opportunity to join in deepening the bond we have with the churches and people in the land of the Holy One." Funds collected on Good Friday are gathered and distributed to the Dioceses of Jerusalem, Cyprus and the Gulf, all members of the Anglican Communion. Resources for understanding and implementing the Good Friday offering in local congregations are available at www.episcopalchurch.org/gfo. For more information, email the Rev. David Copley, Episcopal Church Mission Personnel Officer and Team Leader.

Celebration of the Ministry of Camp Mokule'ia
and dedication of the refurbished chapel space, Saturday, April 30th
The Episcopal Church in Hawai'i and the Hawai'i Conference of the United Church of Christ have jointly called UCC minister, Rev. David Baumgart Turner, to ministry as the Executive Director at Camp Mokule'ia. David and his staff invite you to a celebration of this call and the ministry of Camp Mokule'ia. The service will be held in the chaped at Camp Mokule'ia at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 30th, and will include a dedication of the refurbished chapel space.

Please come and join in this wonderful celebration. A walking tour of the camp and some of its new initiatives will take place at 10:00 a.m., and a free lunch for all attendees will follow the 11:00 a.m. service.
