Prayer for Young Persons

God our Father, you see your children growing up in an unsteady and confusing world: Show them that your ways give more life than the ways of the world, and that following you is better than chasing after selfish goals. Help them to take failure, not as a measure of their worth, but as a chance for a new start. Give them strength to hold their faith in you, and to keep alive their joy in your creation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
- Book of Common Prayer, p.829.

Vision for Our Diocese

Vision:
All Episcopalians in Hawai`i shall work together to create a Church filled with visible and spirit-driven Christians - Christians who are eager to share our Episcopal tradition and faith, and traditional Hawaiian spiritual values, with those who have not yet found a spiritual anchor in their lives.

Goals:

1)  Convert our Hearts to Accept Jesus' Gospel Message and to Live in a Deep Relationship with God.
2)  Transform the Episcopal Church in Hawai`i and Congregations to Vital and Vibrant Faith Communities.
3)  Evangelize to Share God's Love in Our Communities.
4)  Reduce the structure and administration costs of the Diocese so that its operations, including its bodies, are directed to supporting transformation and growth.

The Five Marks of Mission of the Worldwide Anglican Communion:
1)  To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
2)  To teach, baptize and nurture new believers
3)  To respond to human need by loving service
4)  To seek to transform unjust structures of society
5)  To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth

Benedictine Spirituality for the Frazzled
Tomaine postcardThe Rev. Dr. Jane Tomaine will present the Margaret "Peggy" Kai Memorial Lecture on Friday, January 21, at 7:00 p.m., on "Benedictine Spirituality for the Frazzled." The event will be held at Tenney Theatre at the Cathedral of St. Andrew, 229 Queen Emma Square, Honolulu.

Perception and reaction often hijack our lives. We opt for conflict avoidance, gloss over individual differences, and speak about others in generalizations to create stability and a "pseudo community." But author Jane Tomaine points out that life itself often happens in those interruptions when we focus our attention on the moment, the person before us, and our perception of what we are being asked to do. With conviction of its timeliness and power, the Rev. Dr. Jane Tomaine unfolds a "Little Rule" established nearly 1500 years ago when Europe was characterized by danger, mass injustice, dislocation of population and the apparent collapse of almost all high culture.  With clear insights and and humor she inspires and informs us how to begin our lives again.

For further information, ideas, tools and readings, check Tomaine's website.

This event is being offered as a Margaret "Peggy" Kai Memorial Lecture. For more information on this event call 808-524-2822, ext. 508 or email.

Comment on new Holy Women, Holy Men
The General Convention of The Episcopal Church in 2009 approved a major revision to Lesser Feasts and Fasts, the calendar of "saints days" in The Episcopal Church. The new revision, in trial use, is called Holy Women, Holy Men.
A simplified system for logging comments is providing an easier way for the submission of opinions concerning Holy Women, Holy Men, a major revision of Lesser Feasts and Fasts.

As mandated in General Convention 2009 Resolution A096, The Episcopal Church Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music (SCLM) is soliciting feedback about the book. A simplified system for logging comments is now available, through an online survey.

The online survey will be available through June 30, 2011.

After compiling the data derived from the survey, SCLM will prepare a comprehensive report on the usage and people's experiences with Holy Women, Holy Men for the 77th General Convention in 2012 in Indianapolis, IN. As directed by Resolution A096, the report will include recommendations for revisions to the calendar as well as the collects and lessons approved in 2009.

For more information on Holy Women, Holy Men, go to the Church Publishing web site.
