Prayer for the Nativity of John the Baptist
Almighty God, by whose providence your servant John the Baptist was wonderfully born, and sent to prepare the way of your Son our Savior by preaching repentance: Make us so to follow his teaching and holy life, that we may truly repent according to his preaching; and, following his example, constantly speak the truth, boldly rebuke vice, and patiently suffer for the truth's sake; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Vision for Our Diocese

Vision:
All Episcopalians in Hawai`i shall work together to create a Church filled with visible and spirit-driven Christians - Christians who are eager to share our Episcopal tradition and faith, and traditional Hawaiian spiritual values, with those who have not yet found a spiritual anchor in their lives.

Goals:

1)  Convert our Hearts to Accept Jesus' Gospel Message and to Live in a Deep Relationship with God.
2)  Transform the Episcopal Church in Hawai`i and Congregations to Vital and Vibrant Faith Communities.
3)  Evangelize to Share God's Love in Our Communities.
4)  Reduce the structure and administration costs of the Diocese so that its operations, including its bodies, are directed to supporting transformation and growth.

The Five Marks of Mission of the Worldwide Anglican Communion:
1)  To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
2)  To teach, baptize and nurture new believers
3)  To respond to human need by loving service
4)  To seek to transform unjust structures of society
5)  To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth

Apply for funding as ECW Special
ECW logoThe Christian Social Relations Committee of the Diocesan Episcopal Church Women (ECW) is now accepting applications from programs that want to be considered as a "Special." The ECW supports three Specials per year.

Requests for financial assistance (ECW Specials) for 2010-2011 are due on or before July l5, 2010.

Requests should be sent by letter and include the following information:
  • Name of organization, including a brief description of background and services.
  • Purpose of the request.
  • Specific amount of financial assistance requested with a financial statement for the past year.
  • Other available funding already received.
At the ECW Annual Meeting in September, Churches and individuals pledge funds to the support of the "Specials." For projects selected as ECW Specials, a representative of the organization makes a 5-7 minute presentation about the program and information as to how the funds will be used. This allows the delegates to make informed choices.

For more information, including how to apply, see the notice on the diocesan Web site.

Cathedral has slate of assisting clergy
CathedralNotice sent recently by Bishop Robert Fitzpatrick to the Cathedral:

During this time when there is no appointed Dean of the Cathedral or other resident clergy on staff, we are fortunate to have several Assisting Clergypersons supporting the Cathedral with pastoral presence in the office on weekdays and on Sundays as liturgical leaders.

The Assisting Clergy in the Cathedral office on weekdays are:  Mondays, the Rev. Canon Franklin Chun (9AM to Noon); Tuesdays, the Rev. Canon Darrow Kanakanui Aiona (9 AM to Noon); Wednesdays, the Rev. Thomas Van Culin (9 AM to 3:00 PM including the 11:45 AM Eucharist); Thursdays, the Rt. Rev. Richard S.O. Chang; (9 AM to Noon); and Fridays, the Rev. Thomas Yoshida (9 AM to Noon).

These Assisting Clergy are with us to provide pastoral care and presence during the transition as the Bishop prepares to appoint the Dean. Please call the Cathedral office if you would like to speak to an Assisting Clergyperson.

In addition, to many of those noted, we will also be joined by the Rev. Canon Elizabeth Beasley, the Bishop's Canon for Ministry Development,  and the Rev. Richard Shields, a Diocesan elected member of the Cathedral Chapter, for the Sunday liturgies.

Picture yourself in the Bishop's Convention address
We're going to try again. Bishop Bob Fitzpatrick would like to include images from around the Diocese in his address to Convention. If you have images of events and people at your church (and the people don't mind their images potentially being displayed), please send them to Canon Liz Beasley.

The images should be high resolution. To avoid clogging her email inbox, you might burn the images onto a CD or DVD and mail them to her at Office of the Bishop, 229 Queen Emma Square, Honolulu, HI  96813.

Please do not send photograph prints that would need to be scanned. Electronic files only, please.
