Prayer for Fourth Sunday of Advent
Purify our conscience, Almighty God, by your daily visitation, that your Son Jesus Christ, at his coming, may find in us a mansion prepared for himself; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Vision for Our Diocese

Vision:
All Episcopalians in Hawai`i shall work together to create a Church filled with visible and spirit-driven Christians - Christians who are eager to share our Episcopal tradition and faith, and traditional Hawaiian spiritual values, with those who have not yet found a spiritual anchor in their lives.

Goals:

1)  Convert our Hearts to Accept Jesus' Gospel Message and to Live in a Deep Relationship with God.
2)  Transform the Episcopal Church in Hawai`i and Congregations to Vital and Vibrant Faith Communities.
3)  Evangelize to Share God's Love in Our Communities.
4)  Reduce the structure and administration costs of the Diocese so that its operations, including its bodies, are directed to supporting transformation and growth.

The Five Marks of Mission of the Worldwide Anglican Communion:
1)  To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
2)  To teach, baptize and nurture new believers
3)  To respond to human need by loving service
4)  To seek to transform unjust structures of society
5)  To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth

Young Adult Service Corps discernment opportunity
A little known resource of the Episcopal Church that comes with an enormous impact on those who take part is the Young Adult Service Corps (YASC). Each year a dozen or so young adults are sent out across the globe to partner with dioceses of the Anglican Communion.  They spend a year in service and as mission partners in effecting the gospel mandate "on the ground."

The first part of applying to the program is open to all who are between the ages of 21-30. The process begins with a four-day discernment weekend held at an Episcopal conference center in Florida. All costs for travel, accommodation and meals are covered (i.e. it's free!) The weekend is about discerning whether YASC is right for you and your right for YASC. There is one discernment weekend held each year and the application deadline is Monday, January 4, 2010.

The dates for the next discernment weekend are Thursday, February 4, 2010 to Sunday, February 7, 2010.

St. Andrew's hosts talk on treating PTSD
On Tuesday, January 5, from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. in the Von Holt Room, St. Andrew's Cathedral will be hosting a presentation by Marine Chaplain Efland Amerson on "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Combat Stress; Deploying TFT in the front lines in Afghanistan." The evening is inspired by the film " Between Iraq and a Hard Place." Dr. Efland Amerson stars in the movie along with Marine psychologist, Chaplain Bob Bray and his unit. It features the use of TFT (Thought Field Therapy) and PTSD in the military. Dr. Caroline Saito, former head of the psychology department of Kaiser Permanente in Hawaii, is our co-organizer. She has volunteered several times as a missionary to Rwanda teaching TFT to the genocide survivors and has trained volunteers at the Neuman Center in Eugene, Oregon, to use TFT while working with the homeless and the underserved.

TFT is a self-administered treatment following the meridians used in acupuncture developed by clinical psychologist Roger Callahan, author of the book Tapping the Healer Within. Father Luis Jorge Gonzales, OCD, Professor of Spiritual Theology at the Pontifical Faculty of Theology (Teresianum) in Rome has written two books in Spanish on TFT and spirituality: Terapia del Estres, fobias y adicciones con Terapia del Campo Mental; and Siempre Constructivo con Terapia del Campo Mental
