    A Message from George Rodrigue
    2011winner

Two hundred years after becoming a state, Louisiana remains one of the most unique in the union.

The state's rich heritage is evident throughout our history in politics, the culinary and visual arts, music, many festivals, traditions and more.

As Louisiana commemorates this important bicentennial event, I challenge high school juniors and seniors to create a work of art that embodies Louisiana and captures those traits that set our state apart.

    Special Art Closet Award
    George's Art Closet

This year, for the first time, the high school that submits the most entries will receive an art supply kit through our "George's Art Closet" program.

Kits are valued at $2,000 and they can give students the tools that they need to have a first class art education for an entire year!

We want all teachers to encourage every single one of their students to enter this contest. No one ever knows who may have a great hidden talent that is just waiting to be encouraged.

The Louisiana Bicentennial Commission was created to mark the 200th anniversary of Louisiana's attainment of statehood as the 18th state in the Union.

Through both education and celebration, the Commission's goal is to commemorate our Bicentennial in every corner of the state.
