That first week is so important because it sets the tone for the rest of the school year. Make this the best school year ever by starting out organized and stress free! 1. Go through your kid's closets BEFORE you shop for school clothes. Purge what no longer fits or never gets worn. A wonderful place to donate clothing that is in great shape is: Impact Northwest 10055 E. Burnside Portland, OR 97216
503-988-4996
www.impactnw.org2. Get necessary medical or dental appointments out of the way before school starts. If your child takes any medication at school, have your doctor fill out a medical treatment plan to present to your school nurse. 3. Get your school year calendar information onto your family calendar. Include special events, holidays and due dates. 4. If you feel like you are always getting after your kids to hurry up, try setting the clock 5-10 minutes ahead of time. Of course, this only works if they don't know about your little trick! You could also take the batteries out of a clock, or draw the face of the clock showing the time for departure. This way they can compare the actual time with the time they are expected to be ready. 5. Designate a specific place by the door for books, backpacks, etc. Purses and keys can also go here. Use a shelf, basket or box, and label the containers for each member. The important thing is to keep items contained. The easier it is to put away, the greater the likelihood of maintaining the system. Just don't make the container too deep where things can get lost. 6. Make a form letter to use for missing school. Use letterhead with your pertinent family information-names, address, all numbers, e-mail. Devise a checklist of reasons why your child may be missing school or may be riding home with a neighbor. It will only take you a few minutes to create your template and save you oodles of time throughout the school year. Remember to sign the note so that the school can verify that it is legit!
7. Do what you can the night before. Backpacks filled with signed papers and completed homework by the back door. Outfits laid out. Breakfast planned and staged. Double check car pool schedules, gas in the car, keys and purse ready to go.
8. Get up earlier. If you can get up 15-20 minutes before your kids, it can mean the difference between a calm departure or a frantic scene. Try it for a week and see if you're not hooked.
Don't buy what you don't use just because it is on SALE!
