The winter dragged on here and I am glad that it is May. We are expecting some new folks in and saying goodbye to others. They will be missed and the new folks will have big shoes to fill.
Last night, the "Short-timers" (the ones leaving next week) had a very nice ceremony and presented Col Heard with a plaque and a flag. There were a few moist eyes in the room.
I am grateful for the experience here, but I am looking forward to coming back. I need a beer and a nice long bath. The first thing I am going to do is take a shower until the hot water runs out!

Magnets to track vaccines
This has to fall into the category of "what will they think of next."
Scientists at the School of Medicine have developed a new method to track how efficiently vaccines are delivered to the body. Previously it was often unclear how a vaccine injection worked in the body and whether it was doing what it was intended to do.
Researchers at Johns Hopkins Medical school are testing a new technique to track the course of the vaccine through the body. Before it is injected, the vaccine is tagged with submicroscopic iron particles. After several days, MRI allows scientists to quantify the amount of iron that has migrated to the lymph nodes, representing the amount of vaccine successfully delivered.

20-minute video created by former Greenpeace employee, Annie Leonard. It is a cheerful, but brutal, assessment of how much Americans waste, and it has its detractors.
Leonard paints a picture of how American habits result in forests being felled, mountaintops being destroyed, water being polluted and people and animals being poisoned. Annie describes herself as an "unapologetic activist," is also critical of corporations and the federal government, which she says spends too much on the military.
