New Safety Information: Drugs You Should Avoid
 Swirl abstract
On September 5, the FDA unveiled a report listing 20 drugs  under investigation as part of a new policy to warn patients and health-care professionals as early as possible about potentially serious side effects.

The list includes a wide array of drugs, including Eli Lilly's antidepressant Cymbalta and Purdue Pharma LP's painkiller Oxycontin. Other common drugs on the list include heparin (blood thinner), Nitrostat (chest pain) and Seroquel (mood stablizer).

Adverse reactions have included cardiac arrest, skin cancer and Purple Glove Syndrome, which can result in patients having their arms amputated
(associated with the seizure drug, Dilantin).

Call TODAY to make an appointment for an appointment to find ways to become drug-free and healthy!

Why do children have so many food Allergies?
Swirl abstract
Events during the first 3 years of life can lead to the induction of lifelong allergic reactions.

For example, there is a strong relationship between serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, to vaccines and the presence of specific IgE to gelatin. Vaccines that contain gelatin:
  • Tripedia  (DTaP--babies),
  • Varivax (chickenpox),
  • Boostrix (DTaP--teens),
  • MMR (measles, mumps, rubella),
  • Fluzone (flu shot)
  • Yellow fever and
  • ProQuad  (MMR + Chickenpox)
  • Children that have an allergy to gelatin in vaccines can cross react with foods containng gelatin, causing serious and even life threatening reactions.

    SOME FOODS WITH GELATIN
Gelatin and gelatin hydrolysate are used in the confectionery industry to form gels, foams, and creamy textures.  Gelatin is used in marshmallows, caramel and liquor sweets, lozenges, sugar-free gums and as glaze on doughnuts.

Gelatin can be used to produce crystal-clear, sliceable meat and sausage products. It is used to reduce fat residues in canned sausage and to improve softness of sandwich spreads.  Gelatin is the colloid in yogert, sour cream and low-fat dairy products. The melting behavior of ice cream is substantially enhanced by the addition of gelatin.

Avoid these foods if you have a known sensivity to gelatin. Better, go through Osteomed's allergy elimination program so your (and your child!) can be symptom free. Go to our website to learn more. Or call 440-239-3438 for an appointment.
    We've known it for years

Swirl abstractYellow 5, Red 40 and six other widely used artificial colorings have now been unequivolcally linked to ADD/ADHD.

These synthetic food dyes have been suspected of disrupting children's behavior since the 1970s, but the government did nothing to intervene.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest has petitioned the FDA to remove synthetic dyes, such as Yellow 5 and Red 40, from foods children. Read the full report; it is short, but very interesting.

Osteomed's allergy elimination program, SRT, can remove the reactions to the dyes until they can be removed from the diet. Fortunately, kid-friendly food without artificial food dyes are sold at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's supermarket chains. Foods in those stores are free of the controversial chemicals. CALL TODAY for more information. 440-239-3438.
