Greetings!

I just can't seem to stop driving around looking at the foliage. Fall is when I REALLY love living in the mountains. I especially like it when the leaves float on the river. If you are up my way, take a drive down Route 49 towards Waterville Valley. It follows the winding Mad River which is always breathtaking. It is one of those shallow rivers filled with boulders... and now floating leaves. Drops your blood pressure a few points just 'peeping.'
In fact, I think I'll go do that now.... see ya!

P.S. Don't forget that the day after Columbus Day we changed our uniform from khaki to navy blue slacks (please note that jeans don't count - bummer). Read more...

Special News from Judi - Way to go GSAs!!
I would like to let you know that we have received recognition by Volunteer NH! We will be receiving the Volunteer Champion award on October 18th at 7:00pm-9:30pm at the Capital Center for the Arts. Lorraine, Gretchen, and I will be attending the dinner. We have "tickets" for 4 people to join us for the 7:00pm Award Ceremony. If you are interested, please let me know. Thank you to GSA, Lisa J. Jackson for submitting this application on our behalf.

Also, just this minute... as I was writing this, we received a phone call letting us know that we have been chosen as one of the "Top 20 Businesses of New Hampshire for 2012" by The New Hampshire Herald. This is an exciting honor! Our full page-color story will run in a special insert into their regular paper. More info to come!

MHT CUSTOMER APPRECIATION DAY

NH Visitor Center News

The Plymouth State University Ice Arena and Welcome Center has a new facility manager, David Gyger, who joined the team in late August. Ken Knight, the previous manager, has retired and enjoying time with his family and friends back in his hometown in Indiana. David has hit the ground running and is getting oriented with the Welcome Center activities. More on David in a future update.

As far as activities, it has been a very busy summer and great fall foliage season. The students at PSU are back, the weather is cooler, and we are enjoying the last few days of color in the mountains. If you have not volunteered here, now may be the perfect time as we enter into a slower period of visitors. It's a great time to learn about PSU, the town of Plymouth and our surrounding region, and realize it's a vibrant place to come back to and put on your regular volunteer schedule. Activities in the fall are still brisk, with the Plymouth region quickly becoming the cultural hub of the area. There are a variety of performances at PSU's Silver Center for the Arts, the Flying Monkey, and the newly completed Papermill Theatre. Plus the Karl Drerup Gallery, and soon to open Museum of the White Mountains offer an added venue to our many visitors.

Currier Museum of Art Class of 2010

A gathering of Granite State Ambassadors (GSAs) enjoyed a wonderful lunch at a rather new restaurant in northern Manchester NH called Villaggio Ristorante located at 677 Hooksett Road. Everyone I spoke to was pleased with his or her meals. I had a stuffed manicotti that was excellent. It was served with a very fresh and yummy salad with a home made honey mustard dressing. Others had various pasta dishes and a there was a fish special. Since I have family members who are vegetarian, I did notice they had a nice selection of meat-less options.

I moved to New Hampshire in the Fall of 1986 BECAUSE of the motto! I was living in Maryland (having come over from Britain in February 1985 (for what was my second stint in the U.S.)) and had been offered a job with Wang in Lowell. On one of the trips up to Lowell I saw a NH license plate and knew that I had no choice. I had to live in NH because that motto struck a chord. I was hooked. I could relate to it.

**DUE TO DIETARY CONCERNS, WE WILL NOT BE SWAPPING LUNCH so just bring a wonderful lunch for yourself.

Join me as I host this tour exploring the beautiful fall season with a short hike from Benedictine Park through Van Loan Preserve in Bedford. This hike is near my childhood home (and still home of my parents).  Also during the hike we will have the opportunity to write something in the hidden diary (if you can find it).It is a rated 4 tour because we will be hiking in the wood on dirt trails... but I will say... it is not a hard hike, it is a walk and talk hike. -- Your Tour Host, Judi
