Greetings!
 | | Sabbaday Falls |
My cousin and her family visit the area every year. This year she and her three kids stayed with my family for 4 days last week. With budgets tight she asked me to line up some free and inexpensive fun for us all... and you know what -- they had way more fun than they normally do. I did get some ribbing about "Kelly time" which refers to my perception that nothing is that far away. I guess the city girl in me is truly gone for good.
We swam, paddled the Pemigewasset River, watched a mink swim, went camping for a night, roasted S'mores, star gazed, avoided a skunk, went to Chutters Candy (Longest Candy Counter in the World), drove the 4 notches, walked into Sabbaday Falls on the Kancamaugus, hiked Rattlesnake overlooking Squam, visited the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center and back-to-school shopped at Tanger Outlet Center. Phew, I'm tired just writing this.

Day in the Life of a Granite State Ambassador
By: Kelly Bryer, GSA
Museum of NH History Class of 2003
Recently the GSAs were invited to participate in a hands-on tour of the Waterville Valley Region and the White Mountain National Forest. The day began at Exit 32 in Woodstock at the White Mountain Information Center where we met with the folks at White Mountain Attractions and the White Mountain National Forest Welcome & Information Centers. Jim Sacchetti and Jimmy Hill of the White Mountain National Forest's Pemigewasset Ranger District captivated the group with their intimate knowledge of the forest and with their interpretive center. It was hard to move on, there were so many resources available to volunteers and some great questions by the GSAs. I personally learned a lot about the area I call home. Read more about the tour...

A1,6-7 ; A4,6 ; B4,12...? If you are looking at the title of this blog and laughing it's because you are one of the few who have been there and done this. If you don't, then let me tell you the story about my first Big E load in... We headed to Springfield, MA on an EARLY and gloomy morning. I started in Portsmouth, then over to Bedford, South to Keene, and finally down to the Big E in Springfield MA (about a 3 hour drive with a stop at the Days Inn to pick up more boxes, eat, and pee, courtesy of our friend & hotel manager, Jim). Only one problem awaits us when we arrive, we must locate our key. This gave me time to take a walk around. The day had turned for the better, by the time we arrived it was a warm sunny afternoon. I took some time admiring the building and its surroundings. After failing to find our apparently well hidden key, we acquired one from someone on the grounds and were quickly on our way.

GSA Recommendation When Visiting NH
Knight's Pond, Alton, NH, A Little Known Gem Of A Trail In The Lakes Region
by Anura Guruge, GSA
I read about Knight's Pond, around this time last year, on Winnipesaukee.com. It sounded interesting. Deanna and Teischan were going to a birthday party. Devanee was anxious to do something new and fun. So the two of us, with the two dogs, and Maya really was a puppy, went looking for Knight's Pond. We found it, at last, but it wasn't straightforward. There is NOT a single sign for it! That is OK. They want to keep it fairly secret. We were impressed. A few weeks later we all went, again, of course, with the dogs. We have been there a few times since.
