Day in the Life of a Granite State Ambassador
Submitted by Lorry Young, Granite State Ambassador Radisson Class of 2006
The Castle Preservation Society is responsible for the restoration, and preservation of the Castle in the Clouds. This 5,500-acre country estate of Thomas Plant known as "Lucknow" was built in 1914. The winding two-mile drive up the mountainside offers spectacular views in the Ossipee Mt. Range with a breathtaking vista of Lake Winnipesauke. The history of the Castle is fascinating. We had a wonderful tour by the Executive Director Michael Desplaines. He was kind and generous with his time. The innovative technology were unique for the early 20th. century. Some examples are the brine cooled refrigerator, outlets for central vacuuming, wrap around showers, intercom system, and electricity in that area. We never had such a delicious lunch in a horse stall before...AKA the Carriage House. Other amenities include, horseback riding, walk or hike 28 mi. of trails, including the moderately easy hike down along the Shannon Brook's stunning series of waterfalls. Shannon Pond is home to the largest trout in New Hampshire. The Gift Shop has unique gifts themed to New Hampshire and the Castle's History.

Stay Engaged with Virtual Meetings
by: Kelly Bryer, Granite State Ambassador / staff
Museum of NH History Class of 2003
Living in the White Mountains has it's disadvantages when you work part-time for a company based in Manchester. Sometimes I find it hard to juggle the drive times plus the meeting times and a busy work and kid schedule. Having me attend these meetings also takes a financial tole on NHGSA in time and mileage costs so Judi and I came up with a solution. The staff has been having online video chat meetings for quite a while but we never tried it for a formal meeting. In the first meeting with the Dover Chamber of Commerce, Judi set up the video chat through Google Plus and sat me strategically on the table so I could see everyone. I was able to participate fully in a meeting I wouldn't have been able to attend otherwise.
