Greetings!

It's been a crazy week for your GSA staff since I wrote you last... busy, busy, busy! We had a meeting with the Division of Travel and Tourism to start planning for The Big E; Attended the Governor's Conference on Tourism; Managed the Made in NH Expo; Conducted 2 Welcome & Information Center Trainings for the Bureau of Visitor Services; Conducted a Tour of Dover and now we are getting ready for the New England Visitor Center Association Conference next week; The Ambies and the Rock'n Rib Fest. I don't know about you, but we're wiped!

** We never let our intern sleep! Watch for Nathan's "Made in NH Expo" Blog.  He'll be posting it to the Day in the Life of a GSA blog very soon.

Weeks Act Legacy Trail Offers New Tour of White Mountains

Check It Out from Your Car, Computer or Phone!

The Weeks Act Legacy Trail is a new, self-guided driving tour of the White Mountains; you can check it out at www.weekslegacy.org. Helping travelers along the way are an audio tour and print tour as well as an online virtual tour and mobile tour customized for smart phones. Named after The Weeks Act, the watershed conservation legislation of 1911 that led to the creation of the National Forest System, the tour spans 100-miles and stops at 40 signature White Mountain destinations.  Destinations are categorized by eight themes: Art and Literature, Conservation History, Ecology and Nature, History and Cultural Heritage, Kids and Families, Recreation, Scenery and Photographic Opportunities and Water.  Each site is fun to visit on its own; together, they contribute to a meaningful understanding of the past, present and potential future of these protected lands The Arts Alliance is proud to be part of the planning team for this important project.

A Day in the Life of a GSA Blog

Be sure you take a look at this wonderful article in Fosters about the GSAs recent visit to Dover. Click here!

In the gorgeous sunshine on Tuesday, the NH Granite State Ambassadors assembled at C&J to board our tour bus for the City of Dover Tour. Greeted by the ever-friendly and accommodating Michael Mengers from the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce, our NHGSAs were welcomed on board for our magical coach ride. Join Don Briand, News Director at WOKQ 97.5FM and affectionally named "Mr. Dover" and Cathy Beaudoin, Dover Library Director and resident historian, were our guides as our group took in our first views in and around the city. Although we learned many "off-the-brochure" facts about Dover, below are the top 10 most unique takeaways:
  1. Ongoing discussion with Portsmouth historians of which is oldest settlement - Dover is definitely because it was never abandoned!
  2. Dover early mill manufacturing was so respected that they had to white wash windows to keep industrial spies from copying what was being done.

GSA Training 2: The League of NH Craftsmen
By: Nathan Pasquale (Intern), Student (PSU)

This week marked the end of our second GSA Training! What a success it was! The League of NH Craftsmen were excellent hosts for our 2nd of 4 training sessions this spring. They provided an excellent back drop for learning about the state, and it's infinite opportunities for Travel and Tourism. Like Judi says we are always learning something new at each training, this was no exception! Thank you to all of our sponsors, and the guest speakers who took time out of their day to come speak with us. Sit back, relax and enjoy this short recap video of The League of NH Craftsmen Class of 2012.

Live Free & *Network*... NH Governor's Conference

The
NH Granite State Ambassadors were proud attendees to this year's Governor's Conference on Tourism (#GovCon12). We were fortunate that all of our staff were able to attend at least a portion of the three day conference in Manchester, NH. Richard Russell, NHGSA of the Year 2011, also joined in on the fun as part of his title's perks!
Although we learned a lot from the fabulous key note speaker and learning sessions, the big news of the conference was the unveiling of the new VisitNH.gov branding.
