Greetings!

What a great weekend! We spent Saturday and Sunday hanging trim (no, my upstairs isn't done YET). One more weekend and I think we will be done. Good thing because now I'm looking around at the rest of the house thinking I want to make some more changes...

On Monday, we hiked through the Flume Gorge. It was the busiest I've ever seen and it was 75% internationals guests. All the hard work done by DTTD and our tourism marketing organizations is working!
The foliage is really something this year. I honestly can't define it. It is beautiful as usual, but if you cut the White Mountains into a grid with 1 mile squares, every square would have every stage of foliage!!
We drove up to Littleton, over 302 to Bartlett, over Bear Mountain and returned via the Kanc and at any moment of time, you stop and spin and see anything from 25% - peak foliage. The exception was Franconia Notch which is all past peak. The entrance and exit to the notch are 50-75%.
This promises to be our very longest foliage season!! At this rate, we will have foliage for Halloween!!
Whoo-hoo -- it never lasts long enough for me. I really, really love the fall.

How do you Remember The Highlander?
The Elms on WMUR TV
Watch 'The Elms' on Chronicle
As The Elms where it was a resort for Boston politicians and city workers; as an exciting destination where Winter Carnivals were introduced to the area and where the Elms Pavilion hosted an annual event that included a Nordic ski jump, cross country trails, and the legendary toboggan run? Perhaps you remember your parents or grandparents headed out on a Saturday night to The Elms to dine and then dance the night away to music played by The Elms Dance Band. Through the 50s, The Elms became established as one of New England's top resorts with a three-hole golf course, a softball field, an outdoor pool, and barbecues on Friday nights. Through the years, The Elms, now known as The Highlander Inn and Conference Center has gone through many changes...but one thing that never changed is the top-rated hospitality you receive whether a frequent or first-time visitor.

Join us as we swing back to the 1950s  with a Sock Hop Fundraiser to benefit the Award-Winning New Hampshire Granite State Ambassadors. The event is being held on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at The Highlander Inn Conference Center. The public is invited to the potluck, 1950s costumes are encouraged, and games for cash prizes will be played. Please register, make a donation, and get the details for the event at www.nhgsa.com.

Come fly with me from MHT - Customer Appreciation Day
by Judi Window, NHIB Center Manager & GSA Inaugural Class 1996

In my role as the Center Manager for the NH Information Booth based at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in Manchester NH, I am lucky to sit on their Customer Service Team. MHT, as they are known through their airport call letters, strives to attend to their customers every needs. Our team, along with senior management, reviews the comments received through the "Bright Ideas" comments box located at the NH Information Booth for guests, employees, and our Granite State volunteers to complete when they have ideas such as better seating, a restaurant on the public side where those waiting for arriving passengers could relax, and a volunteer "Walk-About" program to answer guest questions. It also allows for complaints and concernes like the pedestrian bridge's mover leaving people's fingers black from the conveyor belt or lightbulbs being out... All of the little things, when focused upon, make the experience of flying MHT a much calmer and easier experience.

Rosewood Inn Celebrates Unique NH In Unexpected Ways
Submitted by: Norma A., Granite State Ambassador
"Winta" Class of 2001

During our Granite State Ambassador Educational Tour of the Sunapee Region, I was fortunate to have my name chosen in the lottery for The Rosewood Country Inn in Bradford, NH.

Although the Inn is 8 minutes off the main track in Bradford, and was a half hour drive from our meeting place in New London, we found ourselves to have been blessed with a wonderful overnight diamond. As we approached along the quaint and scenic Pleasant View Road we couldn't help but wonder what kind of place we must be headed for, but soon we found this was definitely a delightful place where one would definitely go for a relaxing time away from the world.  The acres of manicured, sculpted, picturesque land dressed in flowers was breathtaking. And sitting in it's midst, lying so quiet and lovely was a gorgeous three storied Victorian home with several gables and surrounding Farmers porch with wicker furniture, an artist's painting to behold with a subtle green wooden siding and rose-colored shutters beside all it's many windows.
