Greetings!

The summer is winding down, but the Guild activities are still running strong.  Jupiter is going to Lewes this weekend and Gazela is heading out for another day sail Sunday, prior to sailing in the Great Schooner Race on Tuesday.  Haunted Ship work will commence once Gazela returns to Philly.  On November 3rd, Gazela instructors will start the Level I training program, followed by a Guild dinner meeting at 6 pm.  Downrigging will start on November 4th at 9 am.

A lot of fun and work to do before winter comes.  Please continue to support the effort!
Guild Recruitment
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Sep 29th recruitment event was attended by 14 folks, all of whom were treated to tours of both ships, the raising of the main sail and a ride on the Jupiter.  The Guild coordinators will work on hosting future open houses every other month through the winter.
Jupiter heading to Lewes, DE this weekend
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jupiter will be leaving Philadelphia, heading for Lewes, DE on Friday Oct 5.  She'll be open for tours on Saturday at Roosevelt Canal and then will move up to the University of Delaware dock on Sunday.  The tug will return to Philadelphia by 5:30 pm Monday night.  Her crew will appreciate visitors while down there.

Other Jupe news - the crew has accepted the manual as written and all section chiefs have been approved.  Before taking the new recruits out for a ride, Captain Bill Wiley practiced maneuvers while the crew practiced line handling and docking.
Gaff News
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marcus delivered a 16 sided pole to Gazela on Saturday September 29th.  Jeff Huffenberger fit the 3 peak irons on Monday night and is promising to return every night this week to get the edges planed down and the jaws and shoe attached.  Ideally, the gaff irons will be installed before Saturday, so that it can be mounted by Sunday AM and the sail bent on.
If you have time to help with sanding and oiling, please feel free to come down to help out.
Gazela Day Sail - Sunday October 7
