The Hit of the Party
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday, Gazela squeezed into Dry Dock #2 at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, ably commanded by Captain Scott Cointot.  Gazela's presence was to serve as stage for Urban Outfitter's end of summer party.  A band set up on the galley roof and the ship opened for tours at 5 pm.  Many of Urban Outfitter's employees got personalized tours throughout the ship, with many expressing their astonishment upon seeing the crew quarters and hearing what life on board is like.  The prospect of sailing on this tall ship appealed to some, but certainly not all; a strong confirmation of what we all know - it takes a special kind of person to serve on our ship.
As the evening progressed, U.O. volunteers were asked to help raise our mainsail and the inner jib.  Once the volunteers stepped up to the halyards, the mainsail practically flew up the mast.
There's real excitement about future opportunities with this company.  The U.O. senior management received thorough tours of the ship and expressed interest in helping.  The ship may well be invited back for future parties.
Thanks to Scott for putting the trip together, driving and being a strong advocate for the Guild.
Lula Jane and Jessie Mae Laurino were born Thursday August 23 at 830 am.
They were 6 lbs and 5 lbs 3 oz respectivley.  We came home on Sunday.
Everyone is good and everything is working out except sleep.  The babies
came home to a well stocked nursery thanks to the incredible generosity
of all our friends, so we've been able to enjoy our time with them and
not fret about the details.   ~john
Schooner Race
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's a quick update on the Schooner Race - at this point in time, we do not have a firm commitment on a captain and mates.  Many of our regular captains are locked into their jobs during that time period.  If officers cannot be found, the trip will not happen.

If you have the time and inclination to do the trip, please contact the Guild Office, 215-238-0280.  The ship would leave Philadelphia between Oct 7-8 and return to Philly Oct 16 pm.  We will consider inviting crew from other ships to help flesh out our crew.
