Greetings!

Jupiter heading to Wilmington

Jupiter left Philadelphia this morning at 5 am to be present at the Great Wilimington Tug Festival.  If you are interested in visiting them there, please check out the information on Kalmar Nyckel's website.
Gazela's Classes - July
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On July 7&8 (this weekend), Gazela has a modest work list and will be open to the public for tours.  There is an opportunity for pinrail and nomenclature reviews on Saturday afternoon from 2-5 pm.
Deb Peretz will lead a dockside sail training day on July 14 from 9 to 4 pm.  She will run two sessions, one from 9-12 pm and the other from 1-4 pm.  Lunch will be served to the hands, whether you attend a class or come down to work.  The class size will be limited to 20 people per session, emulating a ship's complement while underway.  We are asking that you register by 5 pm on Thursday July 12, so that watch bills can be set up and distributed before July 14th.
The plan is to teach both emergency drills and to drill the setting of six sails.  Those attending the session will be expected to know their duty stations on the watch bill.  There will be a review of watch stations from 8-9am and 12-1 pm.
There will be work on board Jupiter and Poplar if you arrive early or wish to spend the whole day at the Landing.
On Saturday July 21, Nick Horvath plans to tune the rig.  Level 2 trainees will have leading roles with him to get all the slack out of the standing rig.  Level 1 trainees from the spring will have the opportunity to be tested.
Summer Sail 2007
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Donna Vito and her dedicated team put together a wonderful week of entertainment at Penn's Landing, June 18-23.  The HMS Pinafore concert was certainly the highlight, drawing a large crowd to listen to the Savoy company sing from Gazela's deck.

The captains from the other tall ships who visited Philadelphia were very complimentary of the Guild's support of them.  Captain Liam Keating from the Prince William said that he's looking forward to returning in 2009 and the Captain Watson from the Bluenose II was happy to have spent time here.  We're sure the presence of entertainment opportunities on 2nd Street helped to make their stay enjoyable.

The Guild thanks Kevin McKinney, the Union League and Corinthian Yacht Clubs for hosting a wonderful party on Friday June 22.  Our volunteers ensured goodwill and all were blessed with perfect weather.
