Jupiter News: Ralph Onesti ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The September run to West End Boat Club and the
Delaware County Riverfront Ramble was a huge
success for Jupiter...thanks to her crew.Although Saturday's weather set the tone for a less than expected crowd in terms of numbers, we made a bit more money than last year, had over two hundred go through the boat in just over 5 hours, and increased awareness for Jupiter and the mission of PSPG. We received many inquiries regarding Jupiter's availability, a commitment for a cruise, and the writer of the John Smith/Sultana adventure wants to do an article on Jupiter. West End Boat Club was a perfect host and very appreciative that we were there. Also, The Delaware County Riverfront Ramble want us to sign a contact for next year and highlight Jupiter's presence. All ended in a wonderful two hour run in beautiful pre- fall weather back to her home on the barge. Jupiter and her crew were truly the Jewel of the Delaware this day. Our crew: Gretchen Raichle, Bobby Flemming, John Gerry, Jane Ryan, James Campbell, Robin Schimpf, Susan Hill, Bill Moatz. On a scale of 1 to 10, they were a 12. We're looking forward to the cruise on September 30, The Baltimore run on 20-23, The private cruise on October 29, and finally the Santa Run in Mid December. Thank you all for your participation whether in presence, or thoughts. Also, a hearty "thank you" to the crew of Gazela who made our double eye after bow spring line

Crew Coordinating Group (CCG) - Lenore Khan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Crew present for the meeting: Bobby Flemming, Bill
Fodor,Debbie Greenspan, Ian Kowalczyk, Lenore
Khan, John Laurino, Ann Preston.CREW RECRUITMENT EVENT: rescheduled to November 4, 2006 so both boats will be in town. Date confirmed with Seamen's Church. ANNUAL DINNER: Restaurant School is the current favorite, Donna Vito has an appointment to get information on room sizes and cost. Finnegan's Wake is also under consideration and John Laurino will try to get cost information. Other restaurants can be considered at the next CCG meeting. Cost we hope would be between $25 and $35 per person, date to be set once availability of setting in January is determined. CREW TRAINING: * Priority for crew on the trip for the Great Schooner Race (10/7 -10/17) will be given to those who have passed levels one and/or two with the captain setting criteria on number of crew needed and inclusion of newer or less skilled crew based on the needs of the ship *the CCG suggested also having some of the introductory classes taught by level 1 crew selected by the training committee so that the new recruits from the November recruitment event would not lose enthusiasm and could start skill building. *CCG would recommend that the training manual become part of the wikki material for easier access by crew
CREW RETENTION discussion deferred until
the next
meeting when we hope Annie will be able to
attend

Gazela Crew Uniform Change for 2007 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Crew Coordinating Group discussed crew
uniforms
and have decided it is time for a change. Many may
wonder why a uniform is important. Not
only does it present a good "image" when we are at
an event but it shows our pride in the organization.
Next Spring, we will be offering short sleeve work shirts with the crew logo and that shirt along with the present navy blue golf shirt will be the crew uniform (your choice of which you want to wear at least for this sailing season since we do not want anyone to feel financially stressed by the change, however only the navy blue golf shirt and not earlier colors will be considered as uniform for open ship.) We have also decided to add long dark navy jeans (with no rips or holes) to the khaki shorts or long pants as acceptable uniform options.

Cooks Corner - Lynn Yonally ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do you wonder what the cooks do when the rest of
the crew are scraping, painting, or repairing the
ship. We have done inventories of dry stores and
freezers, defrosted both freezers, cleaned the dry
stores shelves, and consistently cleaned the galley,
dry stores, and cooking area. All this to insure you
are served healthy and hearty meals each Sat. work
day.
With the cancellation of the Newport sail, we had to
really work to make sure the food purchased didn't
spoil and that we could save it for future use. Many
of us took food home to be cooked and frozen, some
took food to be donated to food kitchens and others
planned meals to be cooked on Sat. that would
utilized the stores well. We are very lucky to have a
supply of cooks available who donate time at home
and on board.

Crew Training: Nick Horvath ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have put together a new test for level 1 that
should
be easier to administer and take. I will start using it
this weekend (Sept 23). My goal is to get folks
through level 1 and on to other levels of training. To
that end I am begining to put together classes for
the higher levels. I'll again be using the skills listed in
the back of the handbook as a guide for the testing.
Remember, the skills you learn here can be
transferred to any boat. They will make you a
valuable addition to any crew. Stay tuned for more
updates as we get futher into the fall. We will be
downrigging starting November and I
intend to use that as a training event. Please come
and help and learn.

Education Outreach: Lynn Yonally ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We have a 9 or 16 week curriculum available to be
taught to 4-8 grades. If you have contact with any
school districts you think may be interested in this,
let Lynn Yonally know at:
foretekyonally@aol.com
I would be available to speak with any group or
organization on what our ship mission is and future
classes that may be taught.
We are also needing 3 -5 new education volunteers to help run future programs. If you are available during the day, we need you.
