September is Healthy Aging
& Self Improvement Month

Hartfield's Hikers New Logo
Greetings!

September is my birthday month, and thanks to you and the many others who join me on my outdoor adventures, I am aging in a very healthy way!  I will be 64, experiencing improvements every year, and loving every moment of life! I continue to enjoy some of the best times ever...things just keep getting better and better as each day passes!  I am always interacting with some of the most wonderful people with whom I share mutual support, unconditional love, and healthy fun activities.

August was the first hike I have ever had to cancel/postpone die to weather.  There was a 70-80% chance of scattered storms in the area. I thought I was going to be able to rescheduled it later in the month, but for every weekend there was another fun adventure. But, because so many were looking forward to going to Tallulah Gorge, I will reschedule it.  However, in September we will be hiking Panther Creek, see below for details.

Last weekend I went tree climbing...yeah...tree climbing!  Can you believe it? The tree climbing followed our leisure 2-hour

bike ride where we got caught in the rain.  We were on the trail at Panola Mountain State Park where we stopped occasionally to take pictures, enjoy the scenery and each others company. The entire day was an exhilarating experience!

If you are interested in participating in some of the other fun activities, join my Meetup groups; Atlanta African American Adventurers, with more than 700 members, and/or my  OPALs Meetup  with more than 100 members.  And, while you are checking them out, check out my Lifestyle Blog, also share our newsletters and web sites with your family, friends and colleagues; Hartfield's Hikers, OPALs,Lifestyle Management, LLC, Hartfield's Healthy Haven.

Carolyn Hartfield, and my Speakers Bureau website.

And, don't forget, you can always go to the Lifestyle Management calendar  and check out our Newsletter Archives, to find out where the upcoming hike will be and register, other events, and the newsletter archives to find out what we have done.  Know that I really appreciate your continued support.

Oh, let me not forget to...as a result of much encouragement, I am stepping up my role to spread the joys of life with my presentation "Seasoned, and Savoring in the Spices of Life!"  If I must say so myself, it is a great presentation that I really enjoy delivering.

Enjoy Life and Live it to the Fullest!!!

Hiking Tips

Hiking Boots
Get a good restful night's sleep.

Eat a hardy nutritious breakfast.

Stay hydrated! Drink lots of water. Don't worry about having to use the bathroom...it is not an issue!

Wear layered clothing made of light quick drying (wicking) fabric. Stay away from cotton it holds too much moisture.

Wear sturdy comfortable shoes or hiking boots.  Never wear new boots or shoes on a hike...you will be sorry! Break them in first.

Pack healthy snacks and a light healthy lunch.

Slow down, rest if necessary, stop if tired. Don't push yourself. On our hikes we are as fast as the slowest person, guaranteed.

Follow the Leave No Trace Principles.  Whatever you take in you take out.  Our motto is we only take photographs and only leave with great memories that we cherish!
