FREE EVENT Sponsored by REI

For the past several years we have participated with one of our partners, REI, for the American Hiking Society's National Trails Day event by helping to beautify local trails. For 2012, we'll be participating with the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area at the Powers Island Trail.

We will be helping improve the trails. We will need your hands to finish trails, and maybe dig in the dirt. There will be ample work for all ages and abilities. The first 100 participants will receive a wicking REI Volunteer t-shirt as well as an REI discount coupon.

A small lunch will be provided after the project. Bring some snacks, and as usual, bring plenty of water, a smile and a friendly disposition, and you are guarantee to have a wonderful day! As always, wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots (please, no new shoes or boots...you will be sorry...break them in first!), and of course comfortable layered, clothing.

There is a $5.00 parking fee.

Don't forget the Leave No Trace principles to which we adhere... what you carry in, you carry out, with the exception of taking your memories of the adventure, your new friendships, and of course, any photos you may take.

Hiking Tips

Hiking Boots
Get a good restful night's sleep.

Eat a hardy nutritious breakfast.

Stay hydrated! Drink lots of water. Don't worry about having to use the bathroom...it is not an issue!

Wear layered clothing made of light quick drying (wicking) fabric. Stay away from cotton it holds too much moisture.

Wear sturdy comfortable shoes or hiking boots.  Never wear new boots or shoes on a hike...you will be sorry! Break them in first.

Pack healthy snacks and a light healthy lunch.

Slow down, rest if necessary, stop if tired. Don't push yourself. On our hikes we are as fast as the slowest person, guaranteed.

Follow the Leave No Trace Principles.  Whatever you take in you take out.  Our motto is we only take photographs and only leave with great memories that we cherish!

Cleaning concentrate great for washing hands, showering and even cleaning fine, delicate washables.Green

For hand and body wash: Wet hands or body with water. Use a small amount of Green for a rich cleansing experience.

For fine washables: Fill a basin or sink with cool water. Add a few drops of Green. Add clothes and wash as usual. Rinse thoroughly. Not for use in washing machines.

To protect hands during dirty chores: Create an "invisible glove." Apply a dime-sized amount of Green to dry hands before tackling dirty jobs. Let dry. When you're done, simply rinse hands with water, using additional Green as needed.
