National Grandparents Day, proclaimed by President Jimmy Carter in 1978 as the first Sunday after Labor Day, with the purpose to "...honor grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children's children, and to help children become aware of strength, information, and guidance older people can offer."
It offers a chance for families to honor their grandparents in a special recognition program. It is a place for the new, working or retired, as well as the married, widowed or single grandparents to gather resourceful materials, get information on support services, network and find out about new adventures and fun activities available to them.
