- What you eat, what you need.
- Exercise
- Weight bearing and cardiovascular.
- Proper Rest

Posture in Practice
SAVASANA -SVAROOPA STYLE by Mary Stracensky Savasana or Shavasana as we Svaroopis spell it (I've been told the correct Sanskrit pronunciation is... "sha-vasana". So, the "h" is added to help people pronounce it correctly.), is a pose that helps to settle your body down and in the process settle into yourself. By using a few props to support your body you will get a deeper release of tension. Lying on the floor with your legs propped and a small pillow under the head allows you to experience deep rest. And, more importantly, Shavasana helps to remove the obstacles to your own inner peace by cleaning your inner window of the accumulated grit and grind of life, so you can clearly experience the peace that is already inside you! Try Shavasana as your yoga practice every day for 7 days. Start at 5 or 10 minutes and build up to 20 minutes every day. Experience the deep effects of Shavasana... Svaroopa style!

Greetings! As the end of winter approaches it is time to regroup, access and open ourselves up to the birth of spring. Making sure our priorities and goals are in line with what best serves us, our families and the world around us is an important step in this process. Maintaining our health is paramount to this process. Your spine and cranium - central nervous system - are the main mediators of your health and well-being. Keeping them functioning optimally is one very important way to achieve and create the goals you set forth for yourself and your loved ones. We at Wellesley Chiropractic Office are happy to be part of your health care regime. We look forward to seeing you and your family for regular chiropractic adjustments as part of your commitment to maintaining a healthier lifestyle. Please check our our new website at: www.wellesleychiro.comSincerely, Martin Rosen, DC

What is Chiropractic ?
Th e purpose of chiropractic care is to restore and maintain the integrity of the relationship between the brain, the spinal cord, its nerve roots and all the cells, tissues, and organs under its control. These nerve pathways are housed in and protected by the cranial and spinal bones (vertebra). Slight misalignments, distortions or imbalances of these protective structures can cause a disruption of the normal transmission of neurological impulses through these pathways, thus effecting the optimal functioning of the entire body. These disruptive events are called subluxations. Chiropractic adjustments remove and/or reduce these subluxations, allowing your nervous system to function at a more optimal level. This allows your body a better opportunity to deal with life's stresses including: physical, emotional, spiritual and chemical/toxic stresses. Regardless of the disease, symptom or condition, you body functions better if nerve interference (subluxation) is removed. The ultimate goal of chiropractic is the restoration and maintenance of a healthy nervous system, not the treatment of disease.

The Effects of the Vertebral Subluxation and The Positive Outcomes Obtained by its Removal and or Reducion Relationship Between Vertebral Deformities And Allergic Diseases From the Internet Journal of Orthopedic Surgery Full Article
"There is a high possibility that allergic disease relates to the innervation of organs that relate to the immune function which are affected by changes in the vertebrae caused by the chronic vertebral misalignment. There is a high possibility that a preventive effect and significant reduction of the improvement period can be obtained by reinforcing and improving the muscles supporting the rachis. There is high possibility that the adrenal cortex secretion's function of allergic diseases patients is declining slightly."
************ What we know is that vertebral imbalances (subluxations) effect the entire system. There is no event, positive or negative, that occurs that is not monitored, mediated, processed, or acknowledged by our nervous system. It is not stress on our systems that causes the dis-ease but the ability or inability of our body to handle those stresses. No system is more receptive or responsible for how we adapt to our environment than our nervous system. It is the controlling mechanisms for all our actions, thoughts and responses. If the capability of this system is impeded in any way our ability and functional potential is reduced. Chiropractic is based on the premise that the removal of interference (subluxations) to the function of your nervous system is tantamount to you maintaining your health and well-being. Studies have shown that chiropractic adjustments are effective in:
·Reducing subluxations ·Normalizing brain wave patterns (through QEEG studies) ·Increasing circulation and blood supply to the brain. ·Improving neurological function through autonomic nervous system rebalancing ·Reducing impaired motor balance which affects reaction time ·Reducing excessive signaling from the involved intervertebral muscles and therefore changing the way the CNS responds to subsequent input. This alters how the nervous system responds to the environment.
·Reversal of symptoms associated with attention-deficit hyperactivity have been reported from children undergoing chiropractic adjustments, with or without nutritional supplements.
·Increasing reduced nerve response
·Reducing nerve facilitation and hyperirritability
·Increasing the quality and quantity neural inputs to the CNS
·Increasing and balancing the movement of CSF throughout the CNS
·Improving immune system function.
·Increasing the threshold at which genetic predispositions are activated.
·Improving neurological function through autonomic nervous system rebalancing
·Reducing impaired motor balance which affects reaction time
·Restoring normal Basal Metabolic Rates (BMR)
·Increasing individual threshold levels and adaptive responses.
·Adjustments may "reboot the nervous system resetting abnormal neurological patterns and restoring healthier more normal neurological patterns (neuroplasticity)
Receiving a chiropractic adjustment sets in motion a chain of positive events that are integral to you overall health. Any subluxation causes a global response throughout the body and reduction or removal of that subluxation begins a process of healing and repair.

Efficacy of Chiropractic Care
Looking at cost benefit comparison analysis of conservative care such as chiropractic care: "Comparing self-selected chiropractic patients to self-selected medical patients,.. In 6 of the 8 comorbid conditions studied, the rates were lower in the cohort with chiropractic coverage compared with the group without coverage. The rates of comorbid conditions in self-selected chiropractic patients were lower in all 8 categories compared with self-selected medical patients. They concluded that, the inclusion of a chiropractic benefit in a health plan produces a modest favorable selection processes resulting in a slightly younger patient population with fewer comorbidities. At the level of patient self-selection, chiropractic patients are considerably younger and healthier than comparable medical patients." [Nelson CF, Metz RD, LaBrot TM, Pelletier KR. The selection effects of the inclusion of a chiropractic benefit on the patient population of a managed health care organization. J Manipulative Physiol Ther. 2005 Mar-Apr;28(3):164-9.]

Protect Your Child from Toxic Exposures
From Jane Sheppard at HealthyChild.org: Keeping up with all the toxins around your baby can be confusing and frustrating, to say the least. It seems that everything - from toys and baby bottles to mattresses and household furnishings - contain potentially unsafe materials.
The good news is that there is a lot you can do to reduce or eliminate most of the major exposures. This report will help you to sort out the biggest and worst exposures and what to do about them. You can reduce or eliminate many chemical exposures and give your baby a safer, more natural environment. Read the article here: Healthy Child
School near fast-food joint? Expect fatter kids
A study found that youth who study within a half mile from a fast-food outlet eat fewer fruit and vegetables, drink more soda and are more likely to be obese than students at other schools. Read the article here: Fast Food
